HOME COUNTY GOP CHAIRMAN TO RUN AGAINST VETERAN SENATOR
Fiscally liberal S.C. Senator Wes Hayes has drawn a challenger in the 2016 “Republican” primary election.
The 63-year-old politician – who has represented S.C. Senate District 15 (map here) for the last quarter century – will be challenged by his home county “Republican” party chairman.
“After a great deal of thought and prayer, I have made the decision to be a candidate to serve York County in the South Carolina Senate,” York County GOP chairman Wes Climer wrote in an email to his supporters.
Climes’ email did not address his upcoming campaign more specifically, it merely indicated he had enjoy working with other “Republicans” in York County “in defense of our deeply held beliefs in limited government, free enterprise, traditional family values, and a strong national defense.”
Climes isn’t the only county party chairman set to challenge a sitting state Senator in his own party. Over in Florence County, S.C., local party chairman Richard Skipper is set to run against powerful Senate president Hugh Leatherman.
Hayes has been in the State Senate since 1991. Before that he spent six years as a member of the S.C. House of Representatives. He defeated petition candidate Joe Thompson in his last election in 2012 with 74.2 percent of the vote.

one of the most ethical and honorable men in the Senate is Wes Hayes. The damn electorate has gone crazy
But Wes is not a conservative, barely a Republican. I know Wes from way back and I like him. But he is too close to the banking and insurance industries and lets them have free reign in his committee. He is vulnerable, especially because of his closeness to those he is supposed to regulate.
That makes absolutely no sense. If you’ve known Wes from “way back” you know that accusing him of being “too close to the banking and insurance industries” is a damn lie.

Wes has been a great Senator for York County. He will have my support. I believe him to be an honest man. Which is very, very very rare in politics. Especially in SC politics.

I don’t think so. I suggest you wake up. SC politics is corrupt to core. We need good people, like Wes Hayes.
The people of York County are not stupid, and they have been able to witness first-hand how a handful of billionaires from the midwest have been trying to destroy SC politics… I believe that voters, now more than 4 years ago, are unwilling to allow their votes to be purchased by scary television commercials (unfortunately, there are indeed some people, like Doris, who are susceptible to these tactics, but they hardly constitute a majority).
They A need to go! After a short time they are co-opted and corrupted by the system!
They set up special retirements, health care, in district expense, per diem, etc. the people deserve better!
It’s all about the prayer. That’s all any South Carolina voter needs to know.
