REPORTER TO PROVIDE UPDATE ON STATUS OF INVESTIGATION
Reporter Ron Aiken of The Nerve – a Columbia, S.C. based website that’s affiliated with the center-right S.C. Policy Council think tank – will deliver a presentation on the current status of his “penny tax” investigation.
Aiken’s remarks will be addressed to the Columbia Sertoma Club.
Aiken has been digging extensively into this particular tax in the aftermath of an investigation initiated last year by the S.C. Department of Revenue (SCDOR). That probe has already led to two arrests. The bottom line on this story? The proceeds from a $1.2 billion tax hike “approved” by voters via a rigged election in 2012 are being misappropriated in staggering amounts by a well-connected group of political insiders.
And so far there’s been very little in the way of accountability (shocker).
Aiken’s not the only one digging on this story, either. For our latest report on the “penny tax” scam, click here.
As of this writing, ten seats (lunch included) are available for Aiken’s presentation courtesy of local good government gadfly Joe Azar. If you are interested in attending, contact Joe (quickly) at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Sertoma Club meets at 12:30 p.m. EST at Dupre’s (300 Senate Street) – by the Congaree River.
