By Lucy Woods || Who knew someone could make Britney Spears look like a tween role model again?

“The X-Factor” already showcases two train wreck celebrity judges Britney Spears (seen here and here) and Demi Lovato.  But for the show’s finale episode singer LeAnn Rimes took the cake with an “intoxicating” performance.  Rimes performed her signature song “How Do I Live?” alongside talented thirteen-year-old “X Factor” runnerup Carly Rose Sonenclar.

It’s been a tumultuous year for Rimes – who has repeatedly made tabloid headlines for an extra-marital affair, rumored eating disorders, and a stint in rehab.  This could have been the perfect platform for her to re-emerge on the country music scene, but instead it was Sonenclar who effortlessly out sang the unstable veteran artist.

Meanwhile Rimes forgot the lyrics to her own song in an attempt to upstage her younger partner.

Fans quickly took to Twitter and blogs questioning Rimes sobriety, and criticizing her poor performance.

In a response, she tweeted thusly:

In my 18 years of performing, I have never been anything but professional onstage. It is a shame that gossip and lies are overshadowing the performance of Carly, a very talented young girl. And while I have not given any media outlet a quote, if you want one, here it is “It was an amazing opportunity to share this experience with Carly and I know I’ll be watching for her to win tonight.”

Rimes also claimed “I was trying to help this 13-year-old girl who was having some trouble with the song.”

We’re not sure what performance she was referencing, but it is obvious in the video below that the only one “having trouble” with the song was the “professional.”
