U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Florida) – one of a handful of genuine fiscal conservatives in the U.S. Congress – will be the keynote speaker for the South Carolina Republican Party’s annual Silver Elephant Dinner this spring.

Hopefully U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham (RINO-S.C.), Gov. Nikki Haley and fiscally left-of-center leaders in the S.C. General Assembly will be taking notes, right?

Dubbed the “Crown Prince of the Tea Party,” Rubio pulled off a major upset in 2010 when he captured the U.S. Senate seat that most believed was a lock for “moderate” Florida Gov. Charlie Crist. He is frequently touted as a potential vice-presidential nominee as well as a leading 2016 presidential prospect.

Prior to his election to the U.S. Senate, the 40-year-old Miami native (and son of Cuban immigrants) spent one term as Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives.

This year’s Silver Elephant Dinner will be held on May 19 at the Cantey Building on the South Carolina State Fairgrounds in downtown Columbia, S.C. For more information, contact the South Carolina Republican Party.
