Lending more credence to the notion of a “third way” in American politics, rapper Snoop Dogg (a.k.a. Calvin Broadus) has thrown his support behind U.S. Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas). The gangsta rap icon and marijuana lover – born in “the city they call Long Beach” – made no bones about his reasons for supporting the libertarian-leaning candidate, either.

It’s all about Paul’s progressive views regarding the legalization of his drug of choice.

In fact here’s Snoop’s endorsement …

This image – posted on Snoop’s official Facebook page – was accompanied by the message “because I said so.” Within 24 hours, more than 20,000 people – including our founding editor – had “liked” his post.

Obviously a lot of those people are pot smokers … but many of them are people who have become justifiably fed up with the increasingly costly, increasingly deadly failure of America’s “War on Drugs.” Or people who in a larger sense have become fed up with a government that continues to encroach on individual liberty in an effort to protect citizens from themselves.

Snoop’s support isn’t Paul’s first celebrity endorsement.

“I love Ron Paul,” pop star Kelly Clarkson tweeted last month. “I liked him a lot during the last Republican nomination and no one gave him a chance.”

Again … a third way is coming, and the GOP will either “bow down to the bow wow” or become permanently irrelevant.
