Given his affinity for “whites only” country clubs and debutante societies, we’d have pegged former SCGOP Chairman Katon Dawson for a supporter of Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour. Surprisingly, though, Dawson is lining up behind former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich’s prospective presidential bid.
“If (Gingrich) runs, I’ll be with him,” Dawson told reporter Jessica Taylor of Hotline On Call. “I’m trying to encourage him to.”
Please … don’t work too hard, Katon.
As we noted in our recent recap of the 2012 GOP hopefuls, Gingrich is the absolute worst possible choice for the Republican presidential nomination (which is saying something in light of the utter atrociousness of the current Republican field).
“The fact that a demonstrated sellout like Gingrich is being seriously considered by Republicans in 2012 is a testament to the ongoing ideological bankruptcy of the GOP establishment,” we noted in our recap. “And Gingrich’s sellout is ongoing, too. Since leaving Congress he’s cozied up to the left on the climate change issue and endorsed left-leaning ‘Republicans’ over credible conservative challengers.”
Who knows, though … maybe Republicans really are stupid enough to choose as their presidential nominee someone that they know will sell them out. South Carolina Republicans are certainly that stupid … which Dawson exploited repeatedly as he helped to elect dozens of RINO politicians during his tenure as SCGOP chairman.
Also, Dawson is yet another Republican from the Palmetto state who cannot tell the truth.
FITS readers will recall that during his campaign for RNC Chairman he made a big fuss about leaving his “white’s only” country club – only to have it revealed later that he never actually left.
It was all for show … sort of like the GOP has been under bozos like Dawson and Gingrich.
