Haley Bashes FOX Affiliate

Usually it’s a bunch of left-wing loons bashing FOX News, but in South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley has declared war on the local FOX affiliate.

What happened?

On Sunday, WACH TV-57 (FOX – Columbia, S.C.) published a story about Palmetto political blogger (and FITS founding editor) Will Folks’ forthcoming book – which will apparently include detailed accounts of his “inappropriate physical relationship” with Haley in the spring of 2007.

In the wee hours Monday morning, Haley took to her Facebook page to slam the station.

“WACH FOX 57 is a tabloid news station and has no concept of journalism,” Haley wrote.

In fact, here’s a screen grab of Haley’s status update:

Hmmmm … wethinks Haley doth protest too much …

The dust-up comes a week after Haley’s chief of staff, Tim Pearson, dodged questions about his role in attempting to cover up Haley’s affair – including text messages sent to Folks that featured statements like “I’m telling you man, we keep this under wraps and (Haley) is going to win.”

Later texts from Pearson expressed lament for the smear campaign that Haley and her allies launched against Folks in an effort to destroy his credibility.

Haley’s smack talk is also the latest chapter in her ongoing Sarah Palin-style war against the mainstream media, which will no doubt be ramping up in intensity now that Haley has decided to once again abandon her transparency rhetoric by holding budget meetings behind closed doors.

UPDATE: WACH TV news director Bryan Cox has just issued a statement responding to Haley’s criticism. Here’s what Cox – a former spokesman for the S.C. Policy Council – had to say:

“As busy as the governor must be addressing the important issues facing our state, I am humbled to learn Governor Haley deems WACH Fox News important enough to follow our reporting. To be singled out for comment by the governor is a clear signal of how significant our news content is viewed throughout the Midlands, and I invite fellow South Carolinians to join our governor in relying on WACH Fox News as your local source for information.

Please follow our governor’s example and join WACH Fox News in the important discussion about issues facing our state. All the reporting posted to our website,, is open for public comment; you can also give feedback on our Facebook and Twitter accounts. We exist to serve the public and deeply value your feedback. On behalf of all the journalists at WACH Fox News, thank you to Governor Haley for helping us share this important information.”
