RETAILER STICKS ITS LEG OUT FOR THE DEMOCRATS

By Mande Wilkes

FITSNews - August 1, 2008 - Love it or hate it, the Wal-Mart juggernaut is definitely not a force you want working against you.  As such, it’s a good thing that the Democrats have the Messiah at their helm, since the retailing behemoth is angling to squash Barack Obama’s lead.

Wal-Mart has recently set up mandatory meetings, during which its store managers are coached about the importance of defeating Obama in November. The managers are warned of the potential business detriments that may occur if Obama becomes president, the most serious of which is labor unionization.

Specifically, Wal-Mart opposes the Employee Free Choice Act, which like most friendly-sounding laws would actually squelch the freedom that it claims to defend. Currently dangling in congressional limbo, the bill, if passed, would result in the birth of many new unions and the rapid growth of those already in existence. (more…)

LIEBERMAN STILL RUMORED AS POSSIBLE GOP VEEP PICK

FITSNews - July 31, 2008 - We first wrote back in March about former Democratic Vice Presidential nominee and Independent Sen. Joe Lieberman being a possible surprise VP pick for Republican John McCain this year.  Such an unconventional selection - our sources argued at the time - would be the centerpiece of a “centrist” strategy aimed at blunting Democrat Barack Obama’s momentum with middle-of-the-road voters.

Apparently the intervening four months have done nothing to dampen the Lieberman speculation.

From ABC’s “Political Radar” this morning:

Lieberman, an Independent Democrat, flatly denied his interest to ABC’s Ron Claiborne earlier this month, but McCain is now seriously considering him as that “transformative” pick, sources tell ABC News.

McCain is close to Lieberman, admires his willingness to stand alone on principle and shares his views that Islamo-fascism is the most serious threat to the nation’s future.

What’s more, some McCain advisers believe Lieberman would dramatically enhance the point they are now trying to make about Obama in this “celebrity” ad campaign.

McCain and Lieberman are anti-celebrities, the argument goes. They have, as one top adviser said, felt the heat after taking unpopular positions because they were willing to do “what’s right for the country” — whatever it meant for their own popularity.

So will it happen?

Who knows. GOP governors Tim Pawlenty and Bobby Jindal are both discussed way more than Lieberman as likely VP picks, and Jindal’s selection as the first Indian-American on a major ticket would be more than a little “transformative” in its own right.

…IS NOT MUCH OF AN ATTACK AT ALL

By Mande Wilkes

FITSNews - July 30, 2008 - As Salt ‘n Pepa astutely observed, “opinions are like assholes and everybody’s got one” - particularly those seeking to determine the advisability and effectiveness of John McCain’s new ad attacking Barack Obama. But opinions aside, was it advisable? And is it effective?

On both counts, the answer is an emphatic “no.”

It’s not just the Britney and Paris cameos that render it entirely effete, nor the “vote for a hero, not a celebrity” theme. In fact, the “Obama-as-celebrity” angle is just fine, maybe even a little inspired.

But while that’s the thrust of the ad, the meat of it is that Obama’s a tax-raiser and an environmental zealot - two things which, of course, are decidedly positive characteristics to a lot of people. Not to Sic Willie, obviously, but to a lot of other people. (more…)

Ludacris’ Obama Rap

IS IT HATE SPEECH?

FITSNews - July 30, 2008 - Rapper Ludacris has just released “Obama is Here,” a controversial song touting the candidacy of Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama, who has previously stated his admiration of the Chicago-based hip hop artist - going so far as to say he has his song in his iPod.

In the song, Ludacris refers to Hillary Clinton as a “bitch” and calls George W. Bush “mentally handicapped.” He also raps that GOP nominee John McCain “don’t belong in ANY chair unless he’s paralyzed.”

Here are the song’s lyrics …

I’m back on it like I just signed my record deal
yeah the best is here, the Bentley Coup paint is dripping wet, it got sex appeal
never should have hated
you never should’ve doubted him
with a slot in the president’s iPod Obama shattered ‘em
Said I handled his biz and I’m one of his favorite rappers
Well give Luda a special pardon if I’m ever in the slammer
Better yet put him in office, make me your vice president
Hillary hated on you, so that b^$&%* is irrelevant
Jesse talking slick and apologizing for what?
if you said it then you meant it how you want it have a gut!
and all you other politicians trying to hate on my man,
watch us win a majority vote in every state on my man
you can’t stop what’s bout to happen, we bout to make history
the first black president is destined and it’s meant to be
the threats ain’t fazing us, the nooses or the jokes
so get off your ass, black people, it’s time to get out and vote!
paint the White House black and I’m sure that’s got ‘em terrified
McCain don’t belong in ANY chair unless he’s paralyzed
Yeah I said it cause Bush is mentally handicapped
Ball up all of his speeches and I throw em like candy wrap
cause what you talking I hear nothing even relevant
and you the worst of all 43 presidents
get out and vote or the end will be near
the world is ready for change because Obama is here!
cause Obama is here
The world is ready for change because Obama is here!

Musically, it’s not Ludacris’ best effort by a long-shot, although we have to admit it’s difficult to dispute his lyrical premises … Hillary is a bitch, Bush is an idiot and McCain is old.

Of course, we also know this song would be eminently more scandalous if Ludacris was white and the people he was hatin’ on were black. Oh … and if it had a little bit of a country twang to it.

NOT AS FUNNY AS SOULJA GIRL … BUT IT’S BRITISH

FITSNews - July 29, 2008 - We stumbled on this British parody of Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama today, and thought it was sort of funny. Not as funny as Soulja Girl, of course, but sort of funny …

“And it came to pass, in the eighth year of the reign of the evil Bush the Younger (The Ignorant), when the whole land from the Arabian desert to the shores of the Great Lakes had been laid barren, that a Child appeared in the wilderness.

The Child was blessed in looks and intellect. Scion of a simple family, offspring of a miraculous union, grandson of a typical white person and an African peasant. And yea, as he grew, the Child walked in the path of righteousness, with only the occasional detour into the odd weed and a little blow.

When he was twelve years old, they found him in the temple in the City of Chicago, arguing the finer points of community organisation with the Prophet Jeremiah and the Elders. And the Elders were astonished at what they heard and said among themselves: “Verily, who is this Child that he opens our hearts and minds to the audacity of hope?” (more…)

WE DIDN’T KNOW SHE HAD HER OWN CITY

FITSNews - July 27, 2008 - We knew our girl Mande rocked, but we had no idea they named a whole town after her.

Apparently, though, the residents of “Mandeville, Louisiana” not only love our bomb-dropping brunette bombshell enough to name their town after her, but they also share her thoughts on Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama.

In case you’re retinally-challenged, the sign above reads “A Taxpayer voting for Barack Obama is like a chicken voting for Colonel Sanders.”

We’re sure somebody will get pissed off about the obligatory “finger-lickin’ good” slur, but oh well. Such is life, people, and last time we checked there were plenty of redneck crackers who loved them some fried chicken.

HERE WE GO AGAIN …

By Mande Wilkes

FITSNews - July 24, 2008 - Riding the coattails of the cover that launched a thousand offenses, Vanity Fair has just published a spoof of the infamous political cartoon featuring Barack and Michelle Obama.

Yet this time it’s John and Cindy McCain who are being “satirized.”

Similarly situated in the Oval Office, the McCains are shown (like the Obamas) bumping fists … which is probably the most noteworthy aspect of the picture.

You see, as with the Obama cover, there’s no really satire in the drawing - just a pictorial declaration of a handful of literal facts about the McCains.

In the picture (above ), Senator McCain leans on a walker while Cindy clutches an armful of prescription pill bottles. A portrait of George W. Bush rests over a fireplace, in which the U.S. Constitution is burning. (more…)
