EX-PRESIDENT SLAMS SOCIALIZED MEDICINE PLAN ENDORSED BY HIS WIFE …
Campaigning for his wife in Flint, Michigan this week, former U.S. president Bill Clinton referred to current U.S. president Barack Obama‘s socialized medicine plan as “the craziest thing in the world.”
Wait … what?
That’s right. While Hillary Clinton has recently sought to downplay her support for a massive expansion of Obamacare, Bill Clinton is ripping the failed law to shreds.
“You’ve got this crazy system where all (of a) sudden 25 million more people have healthcare and then the people are out there busting it, sometimes 60 hours a week, wind up with their premiums doubled and their coverage cut in half,” Clinton said. “The people who are getting killed in this deal are small business people and individuals who make just a little bit too much to get any of these subsidies.”
“It’s the craziest thing in the world,” he added.
Wow …
Compounding the problem for Democrats? The ex-president’s remarks were made less than 48 hours before Obama was scheduled to deliver a major policy address touting the success of his signature domestic “accomplishment.”
We’re with the former president on this … 100 percent. Everything Bill Clinton just said about Obamacare is accurate (if not worse).
Of course Clinton’s wife, who has endorsed Obama’s law as a centerpiece of her presidential bid, has vowed to “defend and expand the Affordable Care Act.” Earlier this year in South Carolina, Clinton embraced Obamacare as “one of the greatest accomplishments of President Obama, of the Democratic Party, and of our country.”
In fact, she supports the creation of a “public option,” which would position the government as a direct provider in the health care marketplace it has tried (and failed) to manipulate to its liking.
Obama has also embraced this “public option,” which is a de facto admission that the government-run exchanges failed to create the “competition” consumers were promised.
Of course you wouldn’t know Clinton’s position on health care from listening to her speak on the campaign trail lately.
According to Byron York of The Washington Examiner, the truth-challenged Democratic nominee has “gone silent” on the issue.
“A look at transcripts of Clinton stump speeches since she kicked off the general election campaign on Labor Day finds the Democratic candidate almost never talks about Obamacare,” York reported. “She doesn’t promise to expand it. She doesn’t promise to protect it. She doesn’t extol its benefits. She just doesn’t mention it.”
One reason for Hillary Clinton’s silence is that Obamacare is imploding. As her husband noted, premiums are soaring and coverage is getting worse – which is the exact opposite of what Obama promised when this law was rammed through a Democratic-controlled Congress by hook and crook back in 2010.
According to the Kaiser Family Foundation, the average premium increase for 2017 will clock in at around nine percent … assuming you are lucky enough to keep your health plan.
The reason? Obamacare failed to lure enough young, healthy Americans to its vaunted “marketplaces.”
Anyway … while Obamacare continues to wreak havoc on the American economy, Bill Clinton has put his wife in an absolutely terrible political position.
