New University of South Carolina head football coach Will Muschamp will take his show on the road over the next two months following the conclusion of spring practice. And assuming you’ve got some extra cash lying around, you can pay to meet him (and maybe get an autograph).

First of all, we’ve given Muschamp props for the way he has come in as a fifth-choice head coach and assembled a qualified staff while at the same time salvaging what could have been a disastrous recruiting situation.
He deserve credit … and as lifelong Gamecock fans we sincerely hope his hot start off the field is a good omen of things to come on it.
But does that mean Muschamp’s program is at the point where it should feel comfortable charging children to meet its head coach?
No. In fact, hell no.
No athletic program (especially not one affiliated with a government-subsidized school) should ever charge kids to meet its coaches or athletes. It’s bad form … especially for a team that went friggin’ 3-9 last season. Especially in a state as dirt poor as South Carolina.
Of course we have some broader views on college athletics that are applicable here … but you get the point.

He’s still a state employee with a state-provided office playing in a state-owned stadium. Who the hell does he think he is charging people to see him? No other state employee charges for the privilege to see them and why should they? Muscrat keeps this up and he’ll lose support quickly.
While I’ve got “rubber tree plant ant” high hopes for this season I’m a little chagrined about charging for a “meet the head coach” who “hasn’t coached a down as head coach yet” tour. I wonder if he’ll give refunds if he doesn’t live up to the hype or if this is just his way of maximizing his income before getting fired?
