WHAT THE PROTESTS AGAINST DONALD TRUMP ARE REALLY ABOUT

There are two competing narratives coming from the debacle that was GOP frontrunner Donald Trump‘s visit to Chicago on Friday evening – in which liberal activists stormed an arena where Trump was scheduled to speech and clashed (at times violently) with his supporters and with police.

The ensuing chaos prompted Trump to cancel his event.

The first narrative?  That Trump had this coming … that he has been egging on protesters for months and finally got what he deserved.  This view is being advanced (shocker) by the liberal Washington Post, which gleefully rejoiced in Trump’s rude reception in the windy city.

“For months, Trump has been able to control – and often use to his advantage – the hundreds of protesters who show up to his rallies to oppose rhetoric they consider divisive, racist and hateful,” reporter Jenna Johnson noted.  “In the past two weeks, these interruptions have increasingly eaten away at Trump’s speaking time and have often become violent, with police in North Carolina charging a Trump supporter who punched a protester at a rally on Wednesday.”

The second narrative being advanced is that the liberal activist horde – which included avowed communist and former domestic terrorist Bill Ayers – denied Trump his First Amendment rights.

“Liberals love the first amendment until you say something they don’t agree with,” Trump’s son tweeted in the aftermath of the melee.

Trump himself also accused his antagonists of “shutting down the First Amendment.”

Neither side is 100 percent right, in our opinion … although it was interesting to read Chicago Sun-Times columnist Mark Brown‘s take on the incident.

“To be clear, I’m glad people came out to protest Trump. I was hoping for it,” Brown wrote.  “But as I watched an elderly man with a walker trying in vain to return to his car because idiots were running wild through the parking garage where many of Trump’s fans parked their cars, I was ashamed.”

Brown went on to say that while he believes Trump supporters are misguided “they weren’t the ugly ones on this night.”

“Many of those who were celebrating on the arena floor were shouting ‘Bernie! Bernie! Bernie!’ and taunting Trump’s supporters as they tore up Trump signs,” Brown continued.

Classy …

Here’s our takeaway from the evening: It’s fear, pure and simple.  The effort to silence Trump (which isn’t confined to the far left, remember) is really an effort to silence certain views that striking chords across broad swaths of the country.  In fact one of the agitators even carried a sign which read “The Silent Majority Should Stay Silent.”

What better expression of the far left’s modus operandi could there be?

These liberal hooligans aren’t attempting to forcibly disrupt rallies for establishment “Republican” Marco Rubio because let’s face it: He’s not saying anything substantive or original.

“A new American century?”

Blah, blah, blah …

Trump, on the other hand, is taking a sledgehammer to the politically correct establishment.  And whether you agree 100 percent with everything he is saying, there can be no denying he’s sparked a debate that America desperately needed to have.

A debate the far left clearly doesn’t want …

There’s a hashtag trending on Twitter right now: #ChicagoStoppedTrump.  That’s not what Chicago did, though. Far from stopping him, the anti-Trump agitators telegraphed liberal America’s pervasive fear of the populist wave he is riding.

Which is not all that dissimilar to the pervasive fear the “Republican” establishment has …

My, something about The Donald has a way of bringing out the beast in you!

I have to give you credit, at least for not supporting a Clinton if you’re going to damn Trump on his military service or lack thereof.

That said, where is the vitriol for 0bama’s numerous “draft dodger” friends and mentors, even terrorist bombers of a former and current day?

Personally, I don’t give a rip about their lack of service during that era. While a hell of a lot of good, brave, patriotic, men and even women did what they felt was their duty to their country and went, making great sacrifices to include the ultimate, I think history now shows that this war was pointless, evil, and should not have involved us. As with every major conflict since WWII that our government had chosen to involve us in, it refused to let the brave men and women making the sacrifices win it.

My father served in the US Navy on the carrier Randolph. He saw action but nothing our media knew about or reported on in those days. As such, he had very strong opinions about draft dodgers and the “duty” of anyone to serve their country, as most back then honestly believed they were doing. Had I not been so lucky that the war and the draft ended when it did, I likely would have also served, buying into those same beliefs. Thankfully, I did not.

Today, with the 20-20 vision of hindsight, I think those brave men were set up by our government to take falls, lots of falls for the MIC and other evil entities. This had nothing to do with “fighting for our country”, as those good men were told.

I now truly believe the draft to be immoral and wrong, unless our country is facing imminent attack on our own soil. Under any other circumstances, it is involuntary servitude and wrong. Given the shameful history our government has of experimenting on our troops, exposing them to hazardous substances and denying it, and the like, I do not blame anyone for failure to serve.

I also respect the right of those valiant souls who did serve to look upon those who did not with disdain. This includes you.

I personally now believe that a lot who did not submit to the draft may have seen through the bullshit and in fact, might have been visionaries. Some were, no doubt, just cowards.

If this country were under genuine unjustified attack on our soil I would gladly fight for it. Under those circumstances, I would deem anyone refusing, a coward.

Same old “coulda….,shoulda….., woulda served if I was called upon” save that shit for someone else. I volunteered during the draft and served 3 years active duty (1971-1974 as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne and then joined the reserves in 1988 and served another 22 years and am now retired but not from my civilian job). The most terrrified I ever was was during the Yom Kippur War and everybody in my unit (draftees and volunteers alike) pulled together and made our Division proud. Trump would have pissed himself. What gets my goat is assholes like Trump spouting off patriotic shit but when it was their turn they avoided it…fuck that shit and no matter of rationalization you try will change my mind about that. I have no problem with anyone who dodged the draft but don’t spout off jingoistic BS like your boy Trump

Ever since I was a kid I’ve had nothing but loathing for turds like Trump. Nothing pleased me better than beating some loudmouthed braggard on the sports field or any other type of competition and taking the wind out of their sails

I can’t stand bullshit phoneys. I’ve never liked Trump since I first learned of him. I’ve never watched any of his or other “reality’ shows because they are an insult to intelligence and it is a sad commentary to know that so many pitiful people watch that shit for no other reason than it is visual opium.

I don’t like Trump’s fucking mouth, his looks or his mannerisms and never will and it ain’t like the old Howard Cosell days when so many loved to “hate” Cosell. When I see that lying SOB on TV I change the channel in a flash.

Just look at the old newsreels of Mussolini..way before I ever knew anything about Trump whenever I saw one of those old news reels of Mussolini something in my psyche made want to rail against every thing turds like him and now Trump personify.

There’s an old saying among conmen: “You can only con someone who wants to be conned” Looks like you and so many others are prime targets for the con of the millennium!!!!

Plain and simple: I don’t like that motherfucker on so many levels …OK?????

I respect your opinion, but do disagree, SparkleCity.

The con men are those such as Cruz, Rubio, Hitlery, and others who are taking their orders from the same globalist scum as every President we’ve had since Reagan left office, maybe longer. Trump may turn out to be one of them, but given the level of panic on their part to push him out, he doesn’t appear to be one of their own.

Let’s do some math here, let’s say you were 18 years old in 1971, so you “joining the reserves” in 1988 would put you at about 35 years old… I bet you were a welcome sight for the Reserves… I mean being out of the military for 14 years and then coming back to drink coffee and play cards for the next 22 years. All the action you talked about was in your service between 1971 and 1974.

Trump will be the next President of this country, like it or not. Maybe you can take your participation ribbons from your Reserves stint and toss them on the Statehouse grounds like John Kerry.

Squishy123 March 13, 2016 at 9:18 pm

Okay sparklecity you’re going to have to fill in some blanks here. From what I’ve read about the Yom Kippur War and the 82nd Airborne all I’m seeing is that they were put “on alert”. Are you saying you were terrified about sitting in a hanger somewhere out of harms way? Because it sure sounds from what I’m reading that you weren’t boots on the ground being shot at. Maybe you could talk to a Vietnam vet and find out what real terror is like.

The protesters are just coming off as thugs, which doesn’t look good for the Democrats. You don’t see Republican protesters disrupting Clinton or Sanders rallies. I can’t help but notice most of the protesters being escorted out are black, which just adds to the stereotype of how that culture lives and responds. I suspect when Trump wins the general election there will be nationwide black neighborhoods burning. The next morning they’ll be asking for federal aid to rebuild. Hopefully Trump will hold up any money long enough to make these idiots live in 3rd world conditions for years.

Of course, the protesters are wrong. The First Amendment phrase “the right of the people peaceably to assemble,” rarely gets mentioned, but the protesters were disrupting and preventing a peaceful assembly.

Having said that Trump seems to enjoy baiting his opponents. He may even believe these events are to his advantage. It doesn’t matter what Trump’s does. His supporters twist the events as if it is to his advantage or part of his cleaver strategy. They criticize his opponents actions then confess it plays into his hand and Trump ingeniously put his opponents where he wanted them.

It doesn’t matter what Trump does. In their minds it is twisted to justify their faith and support for him.

I can only shake my head when dummies throw out the word racist like candy at a Christmas parade and yet expect an entire race to be a monolith that toes the plantation line.

There was no truth to this story, however. The Christian Times Newspaper is not a legitimate source of news, but rather a site that mixes real political news items — most of which have little or nothing to do with the subject of Christianity — with clickbait fake news items (with the “Black Trump Supporter Shot and Killed by Chicago Protesters” story being one of the latter category).

I don’t see that happening. Trump is going to get ripped to shreds by Hillary’s supporters and the press. There is so much baggage there for them to unpack for all to see that it will be amazing. But then Hillary has probably the same amount of baggage for Trump to exploit. But the news papers won’t be helping Trump because we know they are in the tank for Hillary or had better be. :)

So if Trump and Hillary end up being the nominated candidates it is going to be the nastiest campaign anyone could imagine.

Trump is not playing the game by the rules. Anyone that does will not create change. Had he been a “look like all the other candidates” type he would been out of the race months ago.

Trump is a moderate. Those on the right know that but they are looking for another way to find saneness in insane DC. Maybe the left ought to look at it the same way.

The narrative you conveniently leave out is Trumps “encouragement” of the violence. That’s the main point of every article I’ve read about it, and you don’t mention that at all. I guess you pick and choose what you want to highlight about the media and it’s narratives. Hmmm… i think that’s called creating a false narrative. Trump has sparked nothing but base prejudice and violence. He’s successfully appealed to the greater devils of our nature, which has nothing to do with a “national debate” and everything to do with using hatred to motivate voters. That’s not leadership. Defending him undermines any credibility for understanding politics you might have.
