WILLIAM BREAZEALE TO CHALLENGE INCUMBENT JAY JORDAN IN FLORENCE COUNTY
A former U.S. Army veteran will run in the “Republican” primary for S.C. House District 63 in Florence County. His platform? Putting the Confederate flag back on the grounds of the State House. The candidate – William Breazeale – says lawmakers accomplished nothing by removing the controversial banner.
“What they did in Columbia didn’t address the tragedy in Charleston,” Breazeale told The Florence Morning News., referring to this year’s Holy City Massacre, the murder of nine black parishioners by a white supremacist gunman.
“He was a mentally ill man but mental illness wasn’t addressed at all,” Breazeale said, referring to Dylann Storm Roof – the 21-year-old perpetrator of the attack. “He obtained a gun when he shouldn’t have but that wasn’t addressed at all. I demand government address the problem instead of play politics.”
Breazeale, FITS readers may recall, is the guy who wanted to spend tens of millions of dollars bringing a football program (led by former Clemson University head coach Danny Ford) to Francis Marion University in Florence, S.C.
In fact he still wants to do that …
Breazeale is running against Jay Jordan, who won a special election earlier this year to fill the remainder of the term vacated by former S.C. Rep. Kris Crawford – who resigned from the S.C. House last December.
According to Breazeale, Jordan has been missing votes on a regular basis since he was elected. Jordan did participate in the flag vote, though, siding with those who voted to remove the banner.
Breazeale – then going under the name James Breazeale – ran for adjutant general of South Carolina last year, losing to incumbent Bob Livingston in the state’s “Republican” primary.
Why did he change his name? Who knows … although he’s rumored to have quite the checkered past (as this Facebook page would attest).
