|| By FITSNEWS || Merchants in Forest Acres, S.C. – a municipality located just east of downtown Columbia, S.C. – have created a fund to assist the family of police officer Greg Alia, who was killed in the line of duty early Wednesday morning.
The Forest Acres Merchant Association has created a GoFundMe account to benefit Alia’s family. In addition to online giving, donations can also be made in person at NBSC (4840 Forest Drive, Columbia, S.C.).
“The members of the Association extend their sympathies to the family of Officer Greg Alia, the victim of this senseless crime,” said Jack Oliver, president of the association. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family during this difficult time.”
“We are establishing a fund to help the family during this trying time,” added Drew Hampton, the group’s vice president and operator of Groucho’s sandwich shop on Forest Drive. “We want to make sure their needs are taken care of.”
Alia, 32, was a seven-year veteran of the Forest Acres police department. He and his wife just celebrated the birth of a baby boy.
UPDATE: There’s also a GoFundMe page set up by Alia’s fraternity brothers.

So the cop killer was an unemployed black man with a sketchy past. Wonder what in the world he was he doing wandering around a bank in the mall parking lot while carrying a loaded gun?
I was in the Kroger one night about a week or so ago and recall seeing a guy who looked very much like the pic on one of the local TV stations of the perp. I recall getting an uneasy vibe off of that guy at the time.

If possible make your donations straight through Forest Acres PD. Go Fund Me is a great page but they keep a percentage of the donations. If you can send it straight to the department then the family will get 100% of your donation.
