|| By FITSNEWS || GOP presidential frontrunner Donald Trump made headlines this week when he suggested America’s real unemployment rate was 42 percent.
His claim – dismissed as “wild” by the mainstream media – refers to the United States’ steadily deteriorating labor participation rate. According to the latest data, a whopping 94 million working age Americans are not part of the labor force (a number which soared by 261,000 in August).
That puts this widely watched indicator at 62.6 percent … its lowest level in nearly four decades.
When U.S. president Barack Obama took office in 2009, the labor participation rate was 65.8 percent. When former president George W. Bush took office in 2011, it was 67.1 percent.
At the other end of the spectrum? A 5.1 percent unemployment rate … the lowest in seven years.
Trump calls that number a “joke.”
Is he right?
Yes …
Unemployment is down, but it’s not because the American economy is creating jobs at anywhere near the level it ought to be. And those jobs it is creating? They’re not raising wages.
The mainstream media is free to mock “The Donald” all it wants – calling into question his numbers as well as his terminology. But at the end of the day, numbers don’t lie. As a percentage of the population, fewer people are part of the labor force now than at any point since the late 1970s.
And the amount of money they are earning is steadily declining …
Oh, and that’s government data. Not Trump-speak.

It is called cooking the books on both sides. I think Trump is wrong and I also think the current administration is wrong. The true unemployment rate is probably somewhere around ten per cent, if calculated by methods used prior to the Obama administration.
The United States economy needs a jump start and the current administration is incapable of doing that when all their policies are based social and political motivations

The school districts contractors employ them. Some of what is going on is felonies. So.My buddy Rocky.Using YOUR numbers (eliminate high school,college and seniors) we got 60,000,000 divided by 237,000,000 adults (still included YOUR crew). 25% unemployment.

Except once again, you assume if someone does not participate, they are by defnintion unemployed. Stay at home parents for example are nearly 6 million. There are 12 million in high school. 20 million in college undergrad. Another 5 million graduate students. That alone is close to 45 million, or nearly half of your “huge” number. Another 6 million receive supplemental SS income, and there are 14 million disabled or early retirees receiving SS. That’s another 20 million, so we’re at 65 million. Of that remaining 25 million one cannot assume they are all out of work. They include wives of childless homes who do not work (age groups 50 to 65), a sizable portion of couples 55 to 65 with assets and wealth that do not require they work, young grandparents who remain at home to help their kids, and sadly, older workers (high amount minorities) without the skills that enable them to obtain gainful employment. And that particular group has been with use for a long time. So recheck your numbers. Regardless, there is no correlation between participation and economic growth. The statistical models (the R-squared) is weak at best. But hey, if it makes you feel better, enjoy.
