STATE LAWMAKER: GOVERNOR MUST DEFUND SUBSIDIZED ABORTION PROVIDER

|| By FITSNEWS || The state lawmaker leading South Carolina’s legislative response to the Planned Parenthood scandal says S.C. governor Nikki Haley isn’t doing enough to crack down on the organization.

S.C. Rep. Donna Hicks – tasked by S.C. Speaker of the House Jay Lucas last month to lead the legislative push – says Haley is failing to hold the government-subsidized abortion provider accountable for its gruesome fetal body parts scam.

“The governor has the ability to defund Planned Parenthood today,” Hicks said.  “Several states have cancelled Medicaid contracts, grants and other sources of funding for Planned Parenthood.  We don’t know how long an investigation will take, but what we do know is that we don’t want another tax dollar going to fund the horrible practices of Planned Parenthood.”

According to Hicks, each of the state’s four Medicaid contractors – Unisom, Select Health, Blue Choice and Absolute Total Care – feature varying opt-out provisions in their contracts.

A week ago, Arkansas governor Asa Hutchinson took executive action on this issue – ordering the state’s Department of Health Services to terminated Planned Parenthood’s Medicaid provider agreement.

“It is apparent that after the recent revelations on the actions of Planned Parenthood, that this organization does not represent the values of the people of our state and Arkansas is better served by terminating any and all existing contracts with them,” Hutchinson wrote.  “This includes their affiliated organization, Planned Parenthood of Arkansas and Eastern Oklahoma.”

Louisiana governor Bobby Jindal – a 2016 presidential candidate – has also terminated his state’s Planned Parenthood contracts in the aftermath of the latest scandal.

Haley?  She’s merely called for an investigation.  Not only that, an investigation that’s already been conducted.

Four months ago, this website broke the news of that probe – a S.C. Legislative Audit Council (SCLAC) report accusing the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control (SCDHEC) of inconsistently inspecting and monitoring abortion clinics in the Palmetto State.

SCDHEC is the agency Haley now wants to probe Planned Parenthood.

“Planned Parenthood needs to be investigated and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law – but more than that it needs to be defunded immediately,” Hicks said.  “I call on the governor of South Carolina not only to perform a deep, exhaustive investigation into Planned Parenthood – but to defund it today.”

In addition to state-level efforts, federal lawmakers are working to defund Planned Parenthood and investigate its harvesting and sale of fetal organs.  Among them?  U.S. Senators Rand Paul and Ted Cruz, who are leading the effort in Washington, D.C. on that front (see here and here).

Unfortunately, their efforts are unlikely to succeed as almost every Democrat – and a handful of “Republicans” – in the U.S. Senate support ongoing funding for Planned Parenthood.  Meaning the Senate lacks the sixty votes it needs to bring a defunding bill to the floor for a debate.

Hicks said Haley’s letter was “disappointing” in light of the sheer savagery of the Planned Parenthood scam – which has been exposed by a series of undercover videos.  In the clips, Planned Parenthood executives discuss the menu of fetal body parts available, as well as efforts to keep the scam hidden from the public.

In related videos the organization – which receives $500 million annually from U.S. taxpayers – is accused of harvesting the fetal organs without parental consent.

“Planned Parenthood uses women and their prenatal children for profit,” Hicks said.  “They betray women by pushing abortion above all else.  For every 149 abortions, Planned Parenthood makes one adoption referral.”

We’re with Hicks on this issue …

Haley is trying to reap the political benefits of going after Planned Parenthood – without actually going after them.

Haley has checked out.
She is looking for employment for her post term life.
Ms. Hicks, work around her if you want something done.

Yep. She fooled many. She sure was decisive when it came to siding with the race hustlers and labeling those that elected her 2x bigots and racists.

Shame she won’t stand with the most vulnerable in our society-the unborn.

Republicans very needy, very sick need to control women – includes everything that is Not anyone’s business what said women decide to do with their bodies. I wouldn’t want my sister to have an abortion, but I get that it’s not my business and also that my belief system may be different than hers. So spare us any two-faced biblical rants as too many people shout out against them, then arrange to have one. Including those loud talkers in Congress. The hypocrisy staggers.

AMEN Writenow! They don’t want govt to control anything except women as they’ve been considered property since earliest known history including the Bible. They love the fetus but hate the child especially if the child is black or brown. The Repugs are destined to become the Whigs (their predecessors).

Maybe Haley has seen that other states have completed their investigations of PP and have found no wrong-doing. Maybe someone with a bit of legal knowledge has advised her that federal law prohibits discrimination on a person’s choice of qualified Medicaid providers and does not care to lose a lawsuit that will cost the taxpayers in the same way that AG Wilson cost us with his ill-advised resistance to same-sex marriage.

Let the anti-abortion crowd have their little hissy fit. They’ll tire out and then the adults can get back to work. PP is a much needed resource of poor mothers, which SC has an abundance of.

You are a disgrace as a human being. An animal to work for and support such an organization.

The LAC report cited deficiencies in DHEC’s inspection and monitoring process, not what is taking place/has taken place, at SC abortion clinics. There’s also the matter of Federal law to be concerned about, as recently stated by HHS and CMS, so Haley is on solid ground asking for a real investigation, that exceeds routine monitoring and inspection. If she’s going to buck the Feds, it would be wise to have solid rationale for doing so, unlike Sanfraud and his failed nullification attempts. I’m certain Haley wants the flow of taxpayer money stopped as much as anyone. I’m looking forward to seeing those butchers stopped too.

South Carolina public officials and agency are protected by their terrible record keeping. Most agencies are still in the 90’s when it comes to their information storing and retrieving abilities.

State government likes it that way. No info, no accountability.

It’s a semi-cute Nikki pic, so Will is only partially pissed at her on this one.

Considering that Greenville Representative Garry Smith is leading the push in the House and drafted the letter that Hicks is simply one of dozens to sign onto, it is amazing that FITSNEWS is promoting her as the leader of the movement and giving her airtime on the site.

“Several states have cancelled Medicaid contracts, grants and other sources of funding for Women’s Health Services provided at Planned Parenthood clinics.

There. That is more accurate, since state and federal funds do not support abortions. It’s been against the law for years. So, we see that you do not support providing health services for women, especially poor women. Not to worry; it could be worse. At least there is a place for you and your beliefs: in Trump’s campaign.

Once again, thanks for eliminating my post which provides facts that refute your claim/recommendation to defund. Sorry my input doesn’t track with your party line and/or desire for click bait. Just in case you have any integrity left and will post this, my comment pointed out that defunding PP stops them from providing women’s health services, not performing abortions, as federal funding for this was made illegal years ago.
