The group Ferguson Action claimed responsibility for removing the banner – hailing a “group effort” of local activists. Specifically, the organization credited a North Carolina “freedom fighter” named Bree Newsome with climbing the pole and removing the flag.
Newsome and one other activist were arrested by officers of the S.C. Bureau of Protective Services (SCBPS) following the incident. The charge? Defacing a monument.
“Bree wanted to ensure that white racists had no flag to worship at their rally today,” the group said in a tweet. “The State of SC disagreed.”
Supporters of the flag are holding a rally on the S.C. State House grounds at 11:00 a.m. EDT.

South Carolina lawmakers appear likely to take the controversial banner down early next month in response to last week’s horrific, racially motivated shooting in Charleston, S.C. – which left nine black South Carolinians dead.
We support that effort. And have counseled in favor of removing the flag sooner rather than later.
Having said that, we don’t condone Newsome’s stunt. In fact our guess is it will do more harm than good to the broader effort to take the flag down legitimately.

Witnesses said the incident might hurt efforts to remove the flag permanently from the State House grounds.
“I’m glad to see it down,’’ said Willie Hampton, an African-American who said he saw the flag being removed. “But now, this is going to bring a bunch of riff raff about the flag.’’
Hampton said “the Sons of Confederate Veterans is already angry.’’

Seriously though, props to them for finding a non-violent symbolic protest that is going to get national coverage. It hurt no one, it got their message across… they even treated the flag with respect as the brought it down, not letting it touch the ground. I see this as an ideal display of civil disobedience.
The charges stand, the violation was committed while there was a law in place.
They broke the law by entering the fenced area and removed the flag. It doesn’t matter if they were singing Dixie while doing so. They still broke the law, now they get to take responsibility for their actions… which will likely be a first for some of them.

The empty pole should be left as a reminder of how far we have come. A testament to how deep faith in Christ and undying love for God’s ways can surely overcome centuries of injustice. Maybe. I doubt this will have any effect on the debate/removal, other than keeping the issue in the national news in the wake of the SCOTUS rulings, and that will only help her cause, not hurt it. As long as the national eye is upon this, then the momentum to take it down will continue. Calling someone a cockroach for a peaceful civil disobedience demonstration is a little out there, in my opinion. You wouldn’t call the Boston Tea Party participants cockroaches… but then again they were white, just pretending to be a hated minority to deflect blame.
The flag coming down is “fait accompli” for all practical purposes. And most people I know, and myself, are fine with the fact that it is destined to only be viewed in the future from the confines of a museum.

Disclaimer: I don’t care if the confederate flag stays or goes on the State House grounds. Now, having said that, the anti-flag people need to be real careful with their actions. They are closer now than they have ever been to getting the flag removed. The official primary weapon for the Republican sniper is a bolt-action rifle chambered in .300 Blackout. With suppressor, of course.
The .300 Blackout cartridge has about the same overall length as a .223 and works in the same magazine. It is a small cartridge, but it’s more than capable of reaching out to 200 yards for head shots on Republicans. The .300 Blackout cartridge also has the added benefit of being commercially available in either subsonic or supersonic loadings.
The difference between subsonic and supersonic bullets is that subsonic bullets travel slower than the speed of sound, or less than 1,050 fps. When fired through a rifle that has a suppressor, bullets traveling at subsonic speeds have a negligible signature and are almost impossible to detect. This makes the Republican sniper armed with this setup extremely effective.
Bullets traveling faster than 1,050 fps break the sound barrier and give off a mini sonic boom as they pass through the air. It’s still difficult to locate a sniper shooting a suppressed rifle even if the bullets are supersonic, but when we go to subsonic there is no sonic boom, and therefore nothing for the Republicans to home in on. The .300 Blackout has no equal for the Republican Apocalypse.
Some Republican enthusiasts will claim that a rifle chambered in .22 LR would be a better choice because it can also be subsonic, and it is much smaller, so we could carry more rounds. Nonsense. Our servicemen returning from overseas can recount numerous cases where bullets fired from their government-issued rifles (that are much more powerful) glanced off the human skull. A .22 LR bullet travels at a slower speed and weighs less, so the risk of the bullet glancing off the skull increases, especially as we increase the distance to the target. A .22 LR might be a good choice if you want to stick it in a Republican’s ear, but I would prefer never to get that close.

Yes the silencer would suppress the primer sound. What you don’t realize is that high power rifles use a lot of powder, a suppressor will not Hollywood suppress that much of the sound. It will suppress it enough that you can fire the weapon without damage to your ears. If you shoot a low power cartridge such as a .22LR subsonic the suppressor will reduce the majority of the explosive sound but some will escape if using a semi-automatic. If you use an enclosed chamber such as a bolt action, lever action or pump action rifle, you can achieve a Hollywood quiet suppressor.
Using your argument, my gun should be silenced if I just use subsonic rounds and no suppressor. Maybe you should get your information from real world experience and not movies.

Bond Court judge was way to lenient; $3,000 10% bond. She pays $300 (Well social media does) and she can leave the state. Should have left her in AGDC, she’s a flight risk. I don’t care if they take the flag down or leave it alone. I just think people from other states don’t need to stick their nose in South Carolina business. The woman removing the flag was from North Carolina. The petition they have up to remove the flag has people from all over the United States and it’s none of their business. Let our elected members in Columbia decide. Take it down if it’s offending anyone or leave it alone just let it be South Carolina’s decision not the rest of the country.

Outsiders had to stick their noses into South Carolina’s to get black Americans treated like full human beings and US citizens. SC doesn’t have a very good record when it goes it alone.
South Carolina actually has a very good post reconstruction record compared to other states. The facts of the Orangeburg Massacre are debatable but wasn’t our finest hour. But if you look at the number of minorities that have held elected office and held positions of prominence you will see that we have not been oppressive and that we advanced with equal treatment for all at a rate equal to or faster than many other states. There were many federal civil rights court decisions handed down by federal judges in the SC Circuit. Recent events in Charleston from the unjustified shooting of a black man by a white officer, the racially motivated shooting of a white officer by a black man and the horrific murders at the church were all handled quickly, swiftly, and appropriately by SC without outside intervention or prompting. The citizens of this this state came together to support each other during these events without regard for race. So you can take your Todd Rutherford, Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson inspired woe unto me attitude and shove it.

We have to push back when hateful people appropriate symbols and words from others. Those pictures appear to all as klansmen. Before thee KKK, a klansmen might be a member of a Scottish fraternal organization. They have taken Confederate symbols as their own as well as Masonic rituals.
From no others have they taken more symbols, than Christians. The “Crann Tara” or fiery cross is a old Scottish custom and is currently used as the logo for the United Methodists church. Fire has long been a symbol of the Holy Spirit or indwelling gifts of the spirit.
White robes are also mention several times in the bible.
