CONTROVERSY-PRONE “REPUBLICAN” OFFERS SHOCKING COMMENTARY DURING ABORTION DEBATE
|| By FITSNEWS || South Carolina state senator Thomas Corbin – who infamously referred to women as “lesser cuts of meat” earlier this year – is once again issuing controversial pronouncements.
Only this time his remarks were captured on video …
During a bizarre anti-life filibuster (led by supposedly pro-life state senator Lee Bright) on the floor of the S.C. Senate this week, Corbin rose to lend Bright his support.
“Senator, do you hear as often as I do that it all boils down to a woman’s right to chose?” Corbin asked Bright.
“I hear that – I never hear about the woman in the womb – which is half the women, half the people getting aborted are women,” Bright responded.
“That’s a very good answer, Senator,” Corbin said.
Okay … no objection from us on that exchange.
But then Corbin offered this doozy …
Now if you equate choice with, um, your rights, that’s a valid argument. But would you not agree Senator that a woman always has a right to choose at the time of conception?
Wait … what?
Video taken from the floor of the State Senate shows Corbin punctuating his remark not as a question, but rather as a definitive statement of fact – pointing his finger emphatically as he made the pronouncement.
Even Bright – widely regarded as one of the dimmest bulbs in the Senate – recognized the lunacy of what Corbin was saying.
“Well now I – I wouldn’t go that far,” he responded, “cause of rape and incest … because of the rape issue there’s not always a choice there.”
Well … yeah.
Corbin’s later, rambling remarks seemed to indicate some understanding on his part that a woman who was raped had no choice at the moment of conception … however his original commentary (preserved on the S.C. State House video feed) was unambiguous in stating the opposite.
This website is adamantly pro-life, however unlike Bright we believe in exceptions in the event of rape, incest or imminent danger to the life of a mother. We also support a woman’s right to use so-called “morning-after pills” which prevent pregnancies.

If you are not a child and you are a victim of rape or incest is 20 weeks not long enough to make a decision? Would this exception allow an abortion at full term (40 weeks)?
20 weeks is adequate, but what about women who have children with horrible birth defects that cannot live outside the womb? Last I read the legislation would hold the doctor hostage and the lawyers free reign to capitalize.
Bright allows for the life of the mother, I’m not sure about health of the child, but many of these conditions can be detected before 20 weeks. I believe the only dispute is over rape and incest after 20 weeks. I’m not even sure about current law after 24 weeks.
Last bill I read he did not and it would require litigation for the doctor to make any decisions to save the mother.
I know for a fact they are not detected before 20 weeks. Friends who had that situation. One it was not detected until right before the baby was born. If I recall correctly a week or few. The baby has multiple surgeries in first year and multiple to undergo, a lifetime maybe.
I cannot begin to imagine the pain that family suffers, but they love their baby so much and I have so much love and compassion for them.
Not every one is wired to do that.
Bright said he was willing to compromise on the severe fetal anomalies just not rape and incest. That’s why he is holding it up.

Here’s a hypothetical situation: Suppose you are the parent of a 22 year old retarded daughter who becomes pregnant and you aren’t even aware of the pregnancy until she’s 20 weeks along. The mother’s life becomes endangered because she is grossly overweight with diabetes. The ultrasounds show a terribly defective fetus. Who would you want the make the decision of whether the abort or not? Surely not the government…
