Haley and her stems welcomed Norah O’Donnell – the 41-year-old co-anchor of CBS This Morning – to South Carolina on Thursday morning. What did the two Gen Xers discuss? Who knows … “National Nikki” isn’t exactly tearing up “the Google” lately (despite her efforts to the contrary).
So why do we bring this up? Eh … just a reminder of how Haley is continuing to follow the advice our founding editor gave her way back in 2007. Which was simple: No pantsuits. Like, ever.
“The goal is to get people to stop and listen,” our founding editor Will Folks told the future governor at the time. “If having great legs and showing them off on television gets a certain segment of the electorate to stop and listen to what you have to say, what do you care? All that matters is they are listening to you.”
Is that advice shamelessly sexist? Yes.
It’s also entirely dependent on the female politician. For example, we’d never give the same advice to Hillary Clinton.
In all seriousness, though, despite a dearth of national publicity Haley has been on a tear lately amongst Palmetto State voters. Compared to her December 2011 nadir, she’s up 21.6 percent among registered voters and 25.9 percent among GOP voters (as of two months ago, at least) – meaning unlike four years ago, her 2016 presidential endorsement matters. A lot.

They ate up the story of a supposedly always-oppressed female “other”, under siege from redneck bigots, who overcame the odds and made history in North Carolina by getting elected. They challenged her on basically nothing.
Not only that, but she shamelessly exploited ideas appropriated from “liberal” feminist and civil rights movements — while at home she showed herself to be just as hostile to many women’s and minority issues as any of the “Good Ol’ Boys” she whined about.

1. 50 consecutive months of job gains
2. 165,480 new jobs since taking office.
3. 3.9% decline in the unemployment rate.
4. 79,943 person reduction in the number of unemployed.
5. 85,537 person increase in the work force. (Note: #4 + #5 = #2)
6. South Carolina had a growth of 1.5% in its Employment-Population Ratio verses the United States Employment-Population Ratio growth of 1.0% during a four years when SC population grew 1.2% more than the US.
7. 223 consecutive weeks of decline in year on year of the number of people receiving unemployment benefits. A decline of 37,948 from 53,695 this week four years ago to 15,747 now.
7. When Haley took office there were withholdings taken from twenty-five employees for every recipient (4.10%). Now there are 117 (0.85%)
8. In 2010 the state’s unemployment compensation fund was over $800 million in debt to the Federal Government. This debt is being repaid early, saving $4 million in interest and will be totally repaid this summer.

Wrong. Try the previous links. The Federal government conducts a monthly survey of about 143,000 institutions (government, non profit and commercial/industrial). Some report employment for multiple work sites. For South Carolina it is about 2,000. (I think). The response is by phone and email.
