FEMA Mandate: Embrace Global Warming … Or Else

OBAMA TO STATES: ACCEPT FUZZY SCIENCE OR LOSE FEDERAL FUNDING

|| By FITSNEWS || At first we thought this was one of those crazy far right wing hoaxes but apparently not … the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is actually preparing to deny disaster preparedness funding to states which refuse to acknowledge “global warming.”

That’s right …

According to FEMA’s new state-level “mitigation plan review guide” – released this month – states would be forced “to integrate considerations of climate change adaptation” into their planning models or risk losing access to federal monies.

“The challenges posed by climate change … such as more intense storms, frequent heavy precipitation, heat waves, drought, extreme flooding, and higher sea levels, could significantly alter the types and magnitudes of hazards impacting states in the future,” FEMA stated in its report.

Now … FEMA isn’t proposing to withhold disaster relief funding (at least not yet).  But it is threatening to withhold emergency preparedness money – of which an estimated $5 billion has been doled out to state governments over the last five years.

FEMA’s declaration – which would become law next March – comes on the heels of former U.S. vice president Al Gore‘s suggestion that “climate change deniers” should be forced to “pay a price” for rejecting what he termed “accepted science.”

Really?

Last time we checked, all this hyperbolic insanity comes as the case for global warming (outside of government-subsidized academia, anyway) continues to unravel.  Which may explain why eco-radicals in the administration of Barack Obama are pushing this nonsense now …

No matter what their rationale, this is pure Chicagoland thugocracy at work … yet another example of an Obama bureaucracy going rogue in an effort to appease the far left.  Which means we should probably prepare for an imminent “Republican” capitulation …

Because bowing to the far left’s radical overreach is clearly all the GOP is good for …

Wait. You think getting federal money is a good thing, then?

Confusing,at best.

As for how climate science is supposedly unraveling, are you sure the Vencore Weather info on the Sun does that? Reputable climate scientists all maintain that there are other factors impacting on climate change besides that created by humans. That doesn’t mean the impact of carbon emissions, etc., are negligible. It means they are part of the whole package. And they are a part of the package that we CAN control.

Do some zealouts take it all too far? Sure. But so do some total science-deniers, of whom the GOP has far too many. Sure hate to see you siding with those nutjobs. Is this an election cycle thing, like all that fawning over “The Donald?”

But back to the basic question: If taking federal money is bad to begin with, as you often seem to believe, how is it a problem that any of the money might be withheld.

I’ll pretend to hold my breath until you answer. Not stupid enough to actually hold it.

In reality the world is entering another mini-ice age just as predicted in the 1970s before Wall Street found out it could make money on the fools who believe in Chicken Little. The Earth has noticeably tilted just like it does every 20,000 years.

In February 2007, The Guardian reported that the American Enterprise Institute (AEI) think tank was offering scientists and economists $10,000 each, “to undermine a major climate change report” from the IPCC. AEI asked for “articles that emphasise the shortcomings” of the IPCC report, which “is widely regarded as the most comprehensive review yet of climate change science.” AEI visiting scholar Kenneth Green made the $10,000 offer “to scientists in Britain, the US and elsewhere,” in a letter describing the IPCC as “resistant to reasonable criticism and dissent.” [2]

AEI “has received more than $1.6m from ExxonMobil, and more than 20 of its staff have worked as consultants to the Bush administration. Lee Raymond, a former head of ExxonMobil, is the vice-chairman of AEI’s board of trustees,” added The Guardian

“The vast majority of all scientists and engineers, not on the payroll, agree that global warming is not, and can not be, caused by humans”.

If you call 3% of climatologists, who are the people in the know about the various forcings causing earth temperature fluctuations, the majority, then you would be right:

http://climate.nasa.gov/scientific-consensus/
BTW, it was 86 here in Denver the other day, setting an all time March record high. My point: you should learn the difference between weather and climate.

Reply
ELCID March 24, 2015 at 10:16 am

BTW it was the snowiest time in history in Boston.
Also, Weather and Climate are greatly effected by the wobble of the Earth. Which is now in the middle of a period every 20,000 years of this wobble occurring. Star location changes in Alaska have already been studied to verify this as a fact.

We are also in the beginning of a polarity change in the Earth’s magnetic field. This can cause massive disruption and temperature changes on Earth.

These 2 items alone can cause the climate changes we are seeing today. The Earth’s climate has always changed. It changes every day. No human effort can effect it: only in very localize areas. Remember the Ozone holes, and Y2K??

There is a difference too between Weather, Climate and Astrological Movements. Learn the differences.

This is the smartest thing FEMA could do, and as a “fiscal conservative,” you should embrace it because it will be the taxpayers who are asked to bail out property owners whose homes are threatened by rising sea levels. Granted, I doubt we’ll have the money to bail them out, but it’s better for us and them to avoid the problem in the first place.

There’s a piece of Lowcountry history that is rarely talked about in the media, but illustrates this perfectly. In 1992, there was an important Supreme Court decision, Lucas vs. South Carolina Coastal Commission. The justices decided that the state could not move back its no-build line farther from the ocean because Lucas would lose the value of his beachfront property in the Wild Dunes area on Isle of Palms. Fast forward to the present, and those houses he built (in the Beachwood East subdivision) are surrounded by sand bags, which deteriorate and cause problems for everyone else. FEMA is trying to prevent this problem from happening on a massive scale. And also, if those houses in Wild Dunes get swept into the sea during the next hurricane, guess who will be expected to help pay for them?

Reply
Native Ink March 24, 2015 at 7:34 am

Sorry, Lucas v. S.C. Coastal Commission said the state could not keep Lucas from building on his property because it would cause a total loss in value of his property. That’s a little different than what I wrote. (Too early in the A.M.) The no-build line still moved, but Lucas was allowed to build his houses, which are now nearly gone because of predictable erosion.
