“FOOT-IN-MOUTH” STATE LAWMAKER STRIKES AGAIN …

Two weeks after causing a national scandal by referring to women as “lesser cuts of meat,” S.C. Senator Thomas Corbin is now checking Jews off of his “to offend” list.
Earlier, this website reported on Corbin’s statement that “more Jesus” was needed to stem the tide of men killing women in the Palmetto State. We didn’t disagree with him … although we added an Old Testament caveat (specifically a recommendation to impose some “eye for an eye” justice on this confessed killer).
Corbin apparently isn’t down with the Old Testament, though …
Shortly after making his “more Jesus” comment on the floor of the S.C. Senate this week, the foot-in-mouth lawmaker was challenged by fellow S.C. Senator Joel Lourie – who is Jewish. During his remarks, Lourie made reference to attending synagogue.
“You go to a synagogue?” Corbin interrupted.
“Nothing gets by you, Senator from Greenville,” Lourie responded.
Corbin’s next comment?
“Bless your heart.”
Wait … what?
Obviously, “bless your heart” isn’t Corbin’s way of wishing divine care and protection for Lourie. As Urban Dictionary notes, the expression is “a term used by the people of the southern United States … to express to someone that they are an idiot without saying such harsh words.”
Yeah …
It’s also defined as “a phrase used by Southern women to excuse themselves for speaking ill of someone else” as well as “an expression of sympathy or pity.”
Corbin’s remarks baffled his colleagues … who continue to marvel at the words that come out of his mouth.
(And the food that goes into his mouth).
“It’s like Archie Bunker stepped into a time-traveling DeLorean and wound up here,” one of Corbin’s colleagues in the S.C. Senate told FITS, referring to the politically incorrect star of the 1970s sitcom All in the Family, portrayed by the late Carroll O’Connor.

It’s so bad out. Just the other day I drove past a car dealership and they were – oh my God it was horrible – they were selling cars. And this lady I know who’s a Realtor – last month – she had four closings. Horrible. And the other night I went to Longhorn Steakhouse, and I had to wait. I had to wait, can you believe it? This country is so screwed up. My wife, she keeps getting calls from head hunters with job offers, and just yesterday I paid a little over $2 for a gallon of gas. And then I noticed lately the price of milk is down below $4. Obama has really screwed this whole country up. Man – it’s so bad. I wish it was 2008 again.

The Urban Dictionary is hardly the last word on Southern Parlance. In some circles of Southern society, sure, it doesn’t really mean “Bless your heart.” In others, it absolutely does. Many of the older women in my own family have never known it to be used in the passive-aggressively catty way. Like everything in Southern culture, too, it may vary considerably from one region to another — even from one area of any given state to another. Racial and class factors come into play here, as well.
That guy is clearly a hick and a dick, though. And I do very much doubt he has love in his heart for the Jews. Not like those tuned-in SC pols like Rep. Alan Clemons, who loves the Jews who think the way he does, and buddies up with the ones who hate all the Jews who are not in political and ideological lockstep with them. Most of these “conservative” type “Christians” (theocrats, all) who make so much of their love for the Jews believe that we will be allied with them in the “Final Conflict.” But if those Jews don’t “accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior”, their asses are gonna go right straight to hell anyway.
