STATE SENATOR SAYS THERE IS “ZERO TRUTH” TO RUMOR

|| By FITSNEWS || S.C. Senator Paul Thurmond took to social media this weekend to dispute speculation that he is considering a run for the U.S. Congress against the “Luv Gov,” Mark Sanford.

Thurmond – whom advisors say briefly considered mounting a write-in campaign last fall against the scandal scarred politician – insists the reports (which originated from politicos in his immediate orbit) are untrue.

“There is zero truth to the rumor that I have interest in taking on Mark Sanford for SC-1 as reported by Will Folks,” Thurmond wrote on his Facebook page.

Well then …

A former assistant solicitor and Charleston County (S.C.) councilman, Thurmond ran unsuccessfully for South Carolina’s first district congressional seat in 2010 – losing in a “Republican” runoff to Tim Scott.   He won a special election for the S.C. Senate in July 2012 upon the resignation of former lieutenant governor Glenn McConnell – and a general election for McConnell’s old seat that November.

While Thurmond’s candidacy for this seat would be an interesting wrinkle given his political pedigree, he’s not the challenger Sanford and his advisors are really worried about …

That would be Catherine Templeton, a Lowcountry attorney who recently resigned her post as director of the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control (SCDHEC).

Not that I really care, but well, we know someone is lying… his “immediate orbit” or him…. can’t both be true….

You are making the assumption that this “rumor” came from anywhere other than Wills fertile imagination.

That’s not a good assumption.

I will have you know that just this morning Sic Willie had an extended conversation with the image he saw in his bathroom mirror who verified the story.

Does anyone really care? The more people in the mix, the harder they have to work at winning. Let Thurmond run – best wishes to him. I’ll wait until I know, but appreciate FITS keeping us in the loop. Hell half the time I find out who is running just by reading this site. I prefer to be prepared vs. last minute decisions.

So what he’s saying is Will is making shit up to draw traffic to his site?

It is not unlikely or unheard of that politicians don’t want their name in the mix until they decide. Oooops someone may have leaked it? Maybe polls show he can’t win? For whatever reason, he disputes running for office. Squishy, why so concerned with traffic to Fitsnews when you in fact contribute? I guess if Thurmond does run, you might be able to relate. I doubt he will, Sanford will likely win and it costs lots of money for those seats, but hey – stranger things have happened in SC politics.

Except for Fits,I’ve heard no one mention Catherine Templeton.

It is also noteworthy that ,going back to the early Twentieth Century,NO incumbent Congressman from the First District has lost a bid for reelection.

Sic Willie is her pimp. You know, like he was for Nancy Mace. You saw how that worked out.

BS he was not Mace’s pimp, please find a better debate. Mace could have won had she not spent so much time on fundraising and so little on connecting with the people. Chicken and Egg thing, but I admire her for even trying. Good people don’t want to run for office for the very reason you are stating – they are a pimp or there is always some dirt to be dug up. ‘Nough said about Mace, Templeton – we’ll see.

Sorry, can’t let the Mace claim / revisionist history fly unchallenged (although I admit that we’re on a tangent and will surrender after my one shot). Mace was never a serious candidate, and to claim that she “could have won” is just plain wrong. She wasn’t even the tallest midget in that circus, and the fact that Graham pounded everyone in the primary on night one shows that NO ONE was in the ball park. Mace didn’t even crawl out of that pack- Lee Bright was the closest swing at something like 15 or 16%, while Mace was way down in single digit land with everyone else. Doesn’t mean she’s a bad person, just a bad candidate. At any rate, she had zero shot at winning, and the smart money knew that from the outset. here’s an article I was sending to folks last Spring when they claimed that “Candidate X” was going to win- http://www.nbcnews.com/politics/congress/lindsey-graham-faces-big-weak-field-challengers-n74321

We were being fed a steady diet of mace and Bright here on FITS through November, although a small group of us refused the Kool-Aid and kept preaching that like it or not, LG was going to win (and pretty handily at that).

I knew early on that LG was going to win simply due to a weak field of candidates and he had a lot of campaign funds. Feedback I received indicated that Mace potentially could have contributed more to the anti-Graham vote if she could/would have done a better job at connecting with the people. She talked to much about personal life and not enough about issues, waited too long to address issues and thus she got a small percentage of the vote. Bright is far too socially conservative for me. The thing I dislike most about LG, he has been in office too long. Would love to see a fresh face, but we could have worse based on those in the mix.

As for Templeton, interesting “Her term as DHEC director officially runs through March 2016, but according to the statement, she told DHEC’s board of directors when hired that she would serve only through Gov. Haley’s first term.”

Ms. Templeton resigned just as the news broke that toxic chemicals had been discovered in the municipal water supplies in a number of counties — purportedly dumped through waste grates right under the nose of DHEC. She skirted having to answer for that scandal perhaps by leaving when she did.

I was reading what you had to say with anticipation of the spin. I had no idea why she resigned but felt sure there was probable cause.

I was told her resignation was forced. She got canned… If Fits spin was correct, she is resigning too soon to run, for anything. One can only imagine why he’s pimping her out…

No one knows what FITS knows except him. It is possible he has an inside scoop and will post at a later date. I don’t know enough yet to decide one way or another.

I do believe there are two dominate types who visit this site: First is those who mostly agree and have followed long enough to believe he does have credibility. Next are those who troll the site with intention of discrediting. Which are you? The term “pimping” would indicate the latter.

It is my experience that someone is always “pimping” someone in politics, if you use the term loosely. The question is, does the “pimp” care about brand, make an effort to keep others informed, or just plain self interested?

If the latter, don’t buy it. There are far easier jobs that make more money with FITS experience IMHO.

So who is the real pimp?

I still don’t understand how Thurmond ran for McConnell’s seat. DId he actually move or is he a resident of that district in name only.

Templeton claims to be a conservative, yet wants to impose another half-baked nanny state “nutrition program” on every SC student, like Michelle Obama. It’s sponsored by Blue Cross Blue Shield — those fine beneficiaries of ObamaCare.
