WASHINGTON, DC-South Carolina Congressman Jeff Duncan issued the following statement regarding President Obama’s executive action on immigration:

“What the President has done is unprecedented, unconstitutional, and an affront to the American people. In addition to poisoning the well and making it almost impossible to work together on other issues, the President’s actions have created a constitutional crisis that our Founding Fathers had hoped to avoid. Presidents cannot make law on their own. Regardless of how one feels about this issue or any other, I would hope that we could all come together and agree that the precedent set by this President is dangerous.”

“My oath of office to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States is clear. It requires me to use every power at my disposal to make sure this type of action is stopped, condemned, and prevented from ever happening again. One of the most important and effective ways Congress can stop this is by blocking funding. Federalist 58 states, ‘This power over the purse may, in fact, be regarded as the most complete and effectual weapon with which any constitution can arm the immediate representatives of the people, for obtaining a redress of every grievance, and for carrying into effect every just and salutary measure.’ It is the prerogative of Congress to deny funding to Executive proposals in which they believe are unconstitutional or damaging to the country. Presidents have frequently signed legislation that contained such funding restrictions. Democrats such as Senator Carl Levin of Michigan have reaffirmed that restricting funding is a proper role of the legislative branch by stating it ‘(is) not bringing down the government. (It’s) a fairly traditional, targeted approach to make a policy point.’”

“The President’s actions seem to have more to do with politics than policy. The President’s not considering the fact that he’s hurting Americans from all walks of life who are still struggling to find jobs. The President does not seem to care that this action will make our immigration system worse by incentivizing others to come here illegally.”

“I expect the President will threaten to veto any attempt from Congress to stop this unilateral action, and then blame Congress for acting ‘irresponsibly’ if the result in more gridlock. If the President wanted to fix our broken immigration system, he could start by securing the border and enforcing the laws already passed by Congress. But make no mistake, what the President is doing will make our immigration system worse.”

“Congress has not only the right but the responsibility to stop this executive action. The President decided to act unilaterally on this issue and is solely responsible for the conflict that will certainly arise. We need a Commander-in Chief, not a Campaigner-in-Chief. We need a leader who puts the health and well-being of the country ahead of 2016 politics. This is a sad day for the nation, and I intend to use all of my constitutional authority to put a stop to the President’s illegal behavior.”

Why does Obama reward criminal behavior and punish law- abiding citizens?

“The President’s actions seem to have more to do with politics than policy.”

And Jeff Duncan’s thoughts are as pure as the driven snow with no thought given to his continued re-elections.

Jeff Duncan is the poster boy for the populist wave that currently sweeps this state aka the Tea Party. He couldn’t be more compliant even if he tried. Nor could he be less useful to others not similarly handicapped.

Not sure what you mean by “not really” in the case of Reagan and Bush…they both issued executive orders on immigration…this fact is NOT in dispute. However, fast forward to June 27, 2013…The Senate passed (67/32) a bipartisan comprehensive immigration reform bill which is still sitting on John Boehner’s desk.

Huh? I never thought Obama would be impeached as you needed the ‘will’ of the public. Congress will have that after tonight.

40% of adults in this country aren’t working-now Obama is going to add at least 5 million ILLEGALS to compete for jobs.

Impeachment is ‘lite’- the muslim bastard may just get arrested for treason if he continues on this path.

Reply
idcydm November 21, 2014 at 8:48 am

For the same reason Reid has over 300 house bills setting on his desk. And not to mention the first two years of his term when they did nothing.

Smirks November 21, 2014 at 8:56 am

Bush’s executive action caused Congress to react and ultimately work out a bill. This is exactly what Obama is trying to do.

This is also in spite of the fact that right wingers claim to be against giving illegals any kind of protection or amnesty at all, but yet they valiantly defend Saint Ronnie and Bush Sr.’s actions. Which is it? Why is amnesty only bad when a Democrat is talking aobut it?

Speaking of blocking stuff, you gonna bring up Boehner too?

idcydm November 21, 2014 at 9:11 am

First, for you information, I’m for immigration reform.

It’s not exactly, there is no bill.

“For the same reason” includes Boehner but then when you don’t speak of Reid blocking stuff or remember that Obama controlled every thing his first two years, IOKIYAD, right?

BTW the WH said it isn’t amnesty.

tomstickler November 21, 2014 at 9:53 am

Knock the 50 or so ObamaCare repeal bills right off the top, then list a couple that are more than “click-bait”.

idcydm November 21, 2014 at 10:01 am

The same liar who told us we would save $2,500.00 a year in insurance costs…the same liar who told us we could keep our doctors and our insurance plans if we liked them…the same liar who told us he didn’t have the Constitutional power to grant amnesty…the same liar who said he opposed homosexual marriage…now assures us that his lawless decree only applies to 5 million illegals. ..how many tens of millions will now chain- stream across our borders for benefits? ?? How many more Americans will lose their jobs? How much more will the government raise taxes to offer free benefits to these new masses of chain migrants who will surely stream across our borders? How long will it take before a pre- selected judge grants full citizenship benefits, including the right to vote. ..to these new liberated illegals? Will our defence budget be raided to pay for their healthcare? Will the government seize assets like our IRA ‘s to pay out benefits to these newly minted, largely unskilled and illiterate illegals? If criminal behavior is rewarded, why should anyone respect the law?

I’m a primary care provider and I have had about ten patients tearfully leave my practice as a result of the ACA. Be thankful you didn’t lose your coverage or your doctor. Incidentally, my insurance premiums for my family of six spiked dramatically more this year than any other.Glad to hear that at least somebody is happy with the ACA, as the feedback from my patients and colleagues is typically not so positive.
