Another “Republican” Hits Hillary Clinton For Being Old

2016 BATTLE LINES ARE ALREADY BEING DRAWN …

By FITSNEWS || Taking a page out of the Marco Rubio school of presidential campaigning, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker took a shot at former U.S. First Lady/ Senator/ Secretary of State Hillary Clinton‘s age this week.

“I could run 20 years from now and still be about the same age as the former Secretary of State is right now,” Walker told WITI TV 6 (Fox – Milwaukee).

Walker has been ramping up his national profile in the wake of the 2014 elections – which saw him fend off his third democratic challenger in the last four years (he was elected governor of Wisconsin in the GOP wave of 2010, won a recall election in 2012 and won reelection this year).

Now, in addition to touting his own electability at the national level Walker is echoing what pundits say is an effective criticism of Clinton … one previously advanced by Rubio (another 2016 “Republican” contender).

“I just think she’s a 20th century candidate,” Rubio said of Clinton earlier this year. “I think she does not offer an agenda for moving America forward in the 21st century.”

We agree with that … although last time we checked Rubio and Clinton shared the same interventionist foreign policy views.  Which along with his stated support for crony capitalism (and America’s ongoing, failed “war on drugs“) makes him a “20th century candidate” in our book.

As for the age question, we’ve never minded the 67-year-old’s senior citizen status … we’ve minded (and still mind) her left-leaning world view.

Hell, “Republicans” trip over themselves to pay homage to Ronald Reagan – who was 69 years old when he was elected president in 1980.  And libertarian leaners (like the founding editor of this website) worship former U.S. Rep. Ron Paul – who is still going strong in defense of freedom and free markets at the age of 79.

In other words age is nothing but a number in politics … as it is in other endeavors.

When is the last time an “old” person won the presidency? George the 1st. With TV more important than ever, people do car how old they look.

Listening to the tape, it is open to interpretation. It is as much a statement of his youth as Hillary’s age. He should realize the media is going to run with a statement like that.

Romney has aged better.

Reagan left office in 1989, he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 1994 so no, he didn’t have Alzheimer’s “before he entered office”. His physician said he “absolutely did not have any signs of dementia or Alzheimer’s while in office”. Hate him if you want but let’s argue facts not hyperbole.

Tom November 18, 2014 at 5:12 pm

Arguing fact with Republicans is a waste of time. They don’t understand the concept.

Anyone who knows anything about Alzheimer’s could see it was true, just by observing his behavior. I’ve worked with many Alzheimer’s patients, and it was painfully obvious w/Reagan.That’s a fact.If you want another opinion,I can get my boyfriend, the doctor(shrink),to rip you a new one…

Again, citing your assertion, “…he had Alzheimer’s BEFORE he entered office…”. His physician started he did not have it when he LEFT office, much less when he entered. While I’m sure your friend is a competent physician, I’m equally sure no competent physician would or could render a diagnosis on a man they had only seen on TV. All of the allegations that he “…slept through staff meetings and bumbled around…” we’re patently false and refuted by members of his staff. Was he an old man, no doubt, had he slowed down, no doubt but he was not a “…stumbling senile old fool…” when he left office no matter how much you think it fits the narrative.

SCBlueWoman November 18, 2014 at 6:57 pm

There were pictures of him sleeping in meetings and waking and eating his jelly beans. And yes, he was in early stages Alzheimer’s when he was elected. I may or may not look that up for you.

The Colonel November 18, 2014 at 7:35 pm

Good luck with that.

The Colonel November 18, 2014 at 8:23 pm

Here’s the article that started the whole “…sleeping in cabinet meetings…” thing: http://www.nytimes.com/1985/11/20/us/briefing-reagan-and-sleep.html

What the author failed to say when he quoted Reagan as saying he nodded of in cabinet meetings was this Reagan was joking when he said it.

The Colonel November 18, 2014 at 7:09 pm

Ah, Mother Jones, that bastion of unbiased reporting. From the article: “… who was not diagnosed with Alzheimer’s until 2004, and his aides: “I’ve seen no evidence that my father (or anyone else) was aware of his medical condition while he was in office. Had the diagnosis been made in, say 1987, would he have stepped down? I believe he would have…” notice that they got the diagnosis date wrong by ten years as well.

Ron Reagan, the estranged (and strange) son of the president.

Well put! +10

9" November 20, 2014 at 8:09 am

Before he was elected,he had an involuntary shaking of the head;an early sign of Alzheimer’s.I’m sure his doctors would say what was needed to say;he’s the president.

xx November 18, 2014 at 6:34 pm

So your boyfriend’s a doc. That makes you an expert on medical issues.

If elected Hillary would be 262 days younger than Reagan was when he took office. At 69 years 86 days Hillary would be older than every other president. The second oldest to take office was William Henry Harrison who was 68 years 23 days old and died 30 days after taking office. The median age is 54/55.

Don’t hate her, never met her.
The evidence is clear that:
She lies: “…I was named after Sure Edmund Hillary…”. “…I had nothing to do with files being removed from Vince Foster’s office…”. “…Vast right wing conspiracy…”

She refuses to take responsibility for her actions: “….What difference does it make…” “…I did not direct any action be taken…”. “…I was not really friends with Alinsky…”

She’s an incompetent manager at best: SDOIG alerts on mismanagement in the the grants program under her tenure, Benghazi, “…and don’t let anyone tell you, you know that it’s corporations and businesses that create jobs…”

Hillary’s chance was 2008.

She won’t even be the Democrat nominee this time around.

50/50 shot of a tape of her going all “Louis Winthorpe III” over the ’08 election surfaces between now and ’16.
