SPARKS FLY AT S.C. 2 DEBATE …

By FITSNEWS || S.C. Rep. Bakari Sellers threw a nice jab at veteran “Republican” politician Henry McMaster in the duo’s lieutenant gubernatorial debate this week.  Specifically, the young centrist Democrat mocked McMaster’s lengthy tenure in government jobs – which actually pre-dates Sellers’ birth.

“You’ve been receiving so many government benefits over your career, there are some welfare queens out there that are probably jealous,” Sellers said.

Ha! Pretty good …

McMaster deflected Sellers’ criticism, saying his measure of success is “how many people don’t need Medicaid – that is, how many are working, who have good-paying jobs.”

Wait … what?

Somebody clearly forgot to vet that remark.  Because if reducing Medicaid rolls is a measure of success (and we would agree it is), South Carolina “Republicans” have a serious problem.

South Carolina has had four lieutenant governors over the last four years – Andre Bauer, Ken Ard, Glenn McConnell and Yancey McGill.  The largely ceremonial office has three main responsibilities – 1) presiding over the S.C. Senate, 2) running the state’s totally superfluous Office on Aging and 3) maintaining a heartbeat in the event something happens to the governor.

We’ve proposed stripping away those first two responsibilities (saving taxpayers $37 million in the process) and making the post a part-time position within the governor’s cabinet.

You do realize Henry will be Governor after the Feds are done. How many times has he run for Governor and lost?? It will take the Feds to get him in.

Whether Haley wins or loses next week she is going to be indicted. The feds have her after Harrells testimony and her get rich schemes involving her so called family buisness associates. It will be a great day in south carolina!!!!!

Would your comment also include the alleged fee paid to Sara Palin in the amount of $ 50,000 which may have come from the bank loan to the Temple for renovations? When Fits was reporting on the Temple’s problems with the contractors and the bank, nothing was included about the discrepancy.
Papa: “What, the loan was for an additional $50,000? See Nikki about that – she did all of the bookkeeping.”

If she did it, she deserves it, I just hate to see her go down that way.
It will surprise the hello out of me if so.

Did you read Cindi Scoppe’s piece about Trikki and her actual lawbreaking?
Trikki deserves to go down and I will love it when it happens. Not only for what it does to her, but for what it does to the people who have voted for her. They all deserve some serious comeuppance.

but she is the Teflon Queen of So Carolina. Nothing sticks. Nothing breaks her stride. I will be shocked if anything happens. As they say on Wall Street, the trend is her friend.

I watched some of the debate last night. I was struck by how awful McMaster looked– needed a haircut, ill-fitting suit. I haven’t been keeping up with this particular election, but Sellers totally out-shined McMaster. McMaster seemed to just expect to win . . .

Sellers was fantastic. Too bad you and I were probably the only ones watching.

So McMaster doesn’t spend as much money on clothes as Sellers does? Maybe Sellers can point him to one of those flashy suit places along Two Notch. Does McMaster also not drive a flashy car… you know clothes and rims are what get you bitches.

What Henry expects is for Trikki to be indicted so he can finally become governor after so many years of trying and failing.

Here in Taxifornia, the lt. Gov. Is likewise a do nothing, say nothing office decoration. Butts-in-seats are nothing new to most states g’ments …, poli-wogs.

Consensus is the Lt. should do something “productive” other than glad hand at events.

I say give ’em the axe.

It would have been so easy for Sellers’ campaign to (directly or indirectly) smear McMaster with his brothers’ recent troubles. I’ve voting for Sellers because he did not take that bait. It’s almost as if he doesn’t belong in SC politics ..

It’s good to see the young black man taking it to Foghorn Leghorn. You know deep down inside, the old racist codger is hating it.

Eliminate the job completely. If someone needs to step up to the plate in case of illness, death, etc of the Guvner, let that person be the Speaker of the House until a new election can take place. Don’t need to pay him because he already gets a salary. So much money gets pissed away in SC guvmint. We have an intermediate Court of Appeals, tons of school districts, way too many Probate Judges and their huge staffs, and much much more. Waiting times at DMVs are long once again and their staffs are still rude. Too many people on the payrolls. Too little to show for all this effort.

Sellers came across as knowledgeable and well rehearsed, but also very slick. On a personal level he reminds me of Andre — ambitious, handsome, very young and immature. I hear he is single – any significant other or just a player like Andre?
