Greenville, S.C. — Tom Ervin’s statement:
The Legislative Audit Council’s report confirms what I have said in the past, not only is DSS unable to protect our vulnerable children, it forces some children to remain in harm’s way.
The gross negligence of Gov. Haley’s DSS poses a real threat to the safety of the children they are charged with protecting. Now we are learning that 152 child fatalities were never reported to SLED.
While the council’s findings are now being revealed, the statistics are not new; more than 250 children have perished under Gov. Haley’s watch. At what point will she recognize the danger this negligent agency is to our children?
There have been multiple warnings from LAC that caseworkers had caseloads that were too high, combined with new findings that DSS is not adequately screening for abuse, we must ask ourselves, “how many children are still in danger?”
Gov. Haley’s blanket refusal to address these problems is a sign that it will not improve under her reign. South Carolina desperately needs new leadership in the governor’s office to deliver the change and reform our children deserve.

At least Ervin knows how to run a campaign. Too bad the Dems didn’t have someone like him on board to take Haley down. Instead, they’ve got an idiot ambulance chaser who has no political savvy what so ever.

Since Ervin is for state sanctioned gay marriage perhaps a compromise could be at hand. Sheheen wants the Confederate Flag removed and replaced with the American Flag on the State House grounds. What if Ervin proposed removing the Confederate Flag and replacing it with a “Rainbow” Flag to celebrate the diversity of the LGBT community?

Look, I get what you’r saying about 3%. But you are missing my point:
Ervin is focusing on the real problem with Haley, her incompetence and incredible track record of failure & lying.
The fact Ervin is drawing 3% is because no candidate can win in SC(and most of the US) as an “independent”. The sheeple think “R” or “D”…anything else confuses them and they aren’t interested.
If you think haley was horrible during her first four years, when she was wanting a second term, just wait if she is reelected!

She’s an un-licensable CPA…which means she should fit right in with all of the un-licensable social worker county directors at DSS.
Cutting Certificate of Need, appointing Metts’ retired partner (40 years Metts number 2 in command Lewis McCarty) in crime as Sheriff after James Metts was indicted, and now this really nullifies Gov Haley for any job in D.C. Haley really should spend some time in her Department of Corrections for allowing SC’s most vulnerable helpless children to sufffer and perish at the hands of her Department of Social Services.
What a wretched and disgusting politician she turned out to be. Kid’s innocence needs to be protected as long as possible during their developmental years from violence and sexual predators else they turn into psychopathic monsters themselves. What this audit suggests is the worst possible form of sociopathic behavior in that Governor Haley will throw the lives of innocent children into the meat grinder for political gain. She needs to be prosecuted!

There’s an awful lot of external agencies reviewing the data – what I showed was “total deaths”. Total deaths gives you a better picture of what’s really going on because it eliminates “failures to report to state agencies” and looks at all deaths regardless of cause or circumstance. Koller would have been more concerned with deaths where DSS was involved (those are down too, check the WLTX link) and those numbers have significant scrutiny as well.

I gave you the link to one watchdog site – there are any number of agencies from CDCP to the “National Center for Child Death Review” (a happy place to work I’m sure)
Total numbers are totally meaningless if we’re talking about DSS.
