DESHAUN WATSON: A STAR IS BORN IN TIGERTOWN

By FITSNews  ||  In his first collegiate start, Clemson University freshman quarterback Deshaun Watson threw for 435 yards and a school-record six touchdown passes in leading his team to a 50-35 victory over North Carolina.

The 19-year-old from Gainesville, Georgia – who nearly led the Tigers to an upset win over top-ranked Florida State as Cole Stoudt’s backup last week – completed 27 of 36 passes in his debut as the No. 1 man on the depth chart.  He also ran 11 times for 28 yards against the Tarheel defense, which was lit up for 70 points the previous week against East Carolina.

Watson played sparingly in Clemson’s first two games of the season – a 45-21 loss to Georgia and a 73-7 win over S.C. State.  He took over the reins of the offense last week against the Seminoles, though, completing 19 of 28 passes for 266 yards.

This week he became the first true freshman to start for Clemson in twenty years.

“I’m happy with the records,” Watson said after the game, adding “I was expecting to go out there and execute, so it wasn’t really a surprise.”

Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney wasn’t about to let his talented young signal-caller get a big head, though.

“Watson played well but he has some things to work on,” Swinney said. “He will learn from this game.”

The top dual-threat quarterback prospect in the country last year, Watson accounted for 17,134 yards of offense and 218 touchdowns during his high school career.

Could similarly gaudy numbers be ahead for Tiger fans?

The first true freshman in Clemson history to throw three touchdowns in a single game. He threw for six TDs.

797 passing yards for the seasonis another Clemson rookie record for Watson. That is in four games and only one start.

6 touchdown passes by Watson is a Clemson record all-time.

Watson set an acc freshman td pass record.

Thumper, hate to bust your bubble but the tiny school in eastern North Carolina known as ECU or ECTC put up almost 800 yards on the TARHOLES and scored 70 points (as WVU did on the Clempson Wiggers in the Orange Bowl a few years ago) and could have probably scored more. I think the QB Carden and ECU took the wind out of the UNC sail. But, I agree, Watson appears to be a good QB and he will against the weakest conference in the Big Five. You guys got NCS, UL, WF, BC, GT, SYR, and the Dukies ahead of you. So, I suspect he will shine. just saying.

VOR, is that all you have to say? Can you not write a complete sentence? Or, was I right on with what I wrote about the Wiggers?

Todd you must be of the ‘queer’ ones and have had the butthurt flow through you. I’m a homophonic, I hate you queer “male” bastards to the nth degree. But I do love watching your lesbians sisters go at. Cheers

Aww, Tater Tater Tater, sounds like you are the butthurt one to jump so fast like that at the mention he isn’t all that you think he is based off of one game against a shitty team. Must be those 5 losses in a row worrying you. Butt hurt taters are funny

When you break records, there is no asterisk for a weak opponent. That’s not how records work. Just saying.

What would you call UNC after the whipping ECU gave them? A strong opponent????. But, hey, they scored 30-35 or so on the Tigs. You guys live/thrive on those weaklings of the ACC I mentioned above. If you get luck this year you might garner the title of “State Champs.” Been along time since 2008, has it not? Enjoy

You SEC want to bes thrived on low level SEC teams until A & M and Missouri came in the conference. Now they own you.

That is true but, September 29, 2014 at 10:04 am

Didn’t Clemson coach Dumbo try to put an asterisk next to the loss to FSU by saying “we beat ourselves FSU didn’t beat us”?

Yes, but FSU is fell from first to second in the coaches poll. FSU played poorly. Clemson made stupid errors (bad snap) and has a kicker with the gitters. It’s still a loss as long as snapping and kicking are part of the game.
Clemson has played a lot of weak teams in the century of football played. But non have Deshaun Watson’s records. It doesn’t take anything away from him.

coolhandluke September 29, 2014 at 12:56 pm

Thump, FSU played with a 3rd String QG (the 2nd string QB transferred to ALA and is back up to Blake Sims) who had not thrown but a half dozen passes. But he beat Clempsum pretty good in the 2nd half. Just to make you happy, I think Watson will do well but not as well as Boyd. Boyd performed outstandingly against those ACC teams.

“Clemson has played a lot of weak teams in the century of football played.”

And 65 of those games have been wins have been against USCe.

ECU is 23 in the AP and 21 in USA Today polls.

I know and they deserve to be there, they beat the Tarholes 70-34. Only game they have lost has been to the USC Gamecocks. Cocks have had a tuff early schedule–TAM, ECU, GA, VU, and and Missouri. Gonna leave you be. Take care. luke

ECU better than ACC September 30, 2014 at 12:14 pm

ECU is 2-0 vs ACC teams FYI (and beat UNC better than Clemsux did), so I guess you are also saying all ACC teams deserve the same. LMAO!!!!

The CLEMSON CRUISES heading confused me …..

——————–

After the football season ended last year a Gamecock player saw an ad for “3-Day Cruise for $99”. He calls the number and asks, “If that is the correct price when does the next cruise start?” The manager says, “The price is correct, and it starts as soon as you get here.”
The Gamecock packs a bag and goes to the office. When he turns around to pick up his bag the manager knocks him out cold with a rubber mallet. Thirty minutes later he wakes up to find himself floating down the river in a rubber raft.
Shaking his head he turns around and sees a Clemson player he knows in a raft slowly catching up to him. When he gets close the Gamecock player asks, “Do they serve food on this cruise?” The Tiger replies, “Well, they didn’t last year!”
