TIGER MESSAGE BOARD FEATURES ENTRY URGING THE LYNCHING OF ERIC HOLDER

By FITSNews  ||  We don’t like outgoing U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder one bit.  And have said so … repeatedly.  This week we used the occasion of Holder’s forthcoming resignation to remind readers of our disdain for him and his nanny statist policies.  We also rebuked Holder’s propensity to view legitimate criticism of his policies as being racially motivated – i.e. playing the “race card” (something he’s done repeatedly since taking office).

Well guess what … leave it to some redneck Clemson football fan to provide Holder with some small measure of validation.

“Like the potus, Holder is an affirmative action hire,” a contributor known as ‘Cohiba Tiger’ wrote on TigerNet, a popular Clemson football message board. “He should be hanged by the neck until he reaches room temperature.  Totally unqualified…..a BIG mistake.”

Whoa …

Don’t get us wrong: We think Holder should be in jail right now.  His involvement in the failed “Fast and Furious” gun-running operation is criminal.  So is his ongoing coverup of that scandal – and his refusal to investigate a flagrant example of election fraud here in South Carolina.

But whatever punishment you think Holder deserves for his crimes against the people of this country, can’t we all agree that proposing the lynching of a black man (especially in the deep south) is probably not the wisest addition to the suggestion box?

What does that sort of statement accomplish?  Other than lending credence to Holder’s “white versus black” worldview?

More to the point, what does Holder have to do with a bunch of beer-guzzling backwoods hicks assessing the “tight ends” of their favorite black athletes?

Seriously …

The Holder comment immediately provoked a response.

“Post something about how great Steve Spurrier is, it gets removed,” one fan noted. “Post a racist rant that describes lynching a guy, it gets a thumbs up. Only on TigerNet!”

Nice …

The University of South Carolina kicked all the black students out in 1880 and went all white until integration in the 50’s. They even named all their academic buildings after slave holders. Damn those racist bastards. Columbia…a bunch of racists. Ever notice how their favorite player is always the white QB?

Thurmond:

CNSYD September 26, 2014 at 11:23 am

As an alleged history buff, go back to what was going on in SC (and other Southern states) as a result of “reconstruction”. Living in that environment colors their actions. Was it the right thing to do? No. Why were Tillman and his followers all Democrats? Events have to be put into the context of their times. It does not excuse their actions but it explains them.

Reply
The Colonel September 26, 2014 at 11:46 am

Tillman really believed the bovine excreta he was espousing his personal actions showed it. Tillman actively participated in the Hamburg massacre (and later embellished his role in it to gain supporters) where at least seven African Americans were killed and a number of others shot or beaten.
I think you can make the case for Thurmond that he was “a man of the times” but in Tillman’s case he was just a POS. In 1895, in response to a SCOTUS decision outlawing literacy test at the polling place, Tillman installed a new state constitution making a literacy test part of the requirement to register vice vote – a majority black state had less than 5,000 registered black voters when he was done.

CNSYD September 26, 2014 at 11:56 am

Strom and George Wallace modified their views over time not, IMO, because they thought they were wrong but because they wanted/needed the black vote. Tillman obviously never felt the need to change his.

The Colonel September 26, 2014 at 12:01 pm

I think Strom actually had a change of heart based on his actions.

CNSYD September 26, 2014 at 3:47 pm

I should clarify, Tillman never felt there was a need to change his views because they were premised on the belief that blacks should not be allowed to vote and should be lynched when they got uppity.

Reply

USC owned/used slaves legally – Tillman’s action came long after all that had changed. Not making the case that slavery was right but that those were the rules of the game at the time something about “context” CNSYD.

Not CNSYD September 26, 2014 at 12:14 pm

If that makes you feel better, fine. Tillman was a racist asshole, but so were the founders of USC. You know that student fees back then included a “servant”…not only did the school promote slavery, the students had their own slaves, paid for with university fees. Great history there, Col.

The Colonel September 26, 2014 at 12:31 pm

Clearly slavery was wrong – but you brought up the subject of context. Consider that “formal institutional slavery’ didn’t end in “America” until 1865 and the University opened in 1801

Pitchfork Ben September 26, 2014 at 12:57 pm

Serious questions: do you believe it is a good thing that Clemson was founded? Why does it matter if there’s a building named after him on the campus of schools (Winthrop, too) he helped found? Does it bother you that there’s a statue of him on the State House grounds? Do you believe he did anything “good” or is everything tainted by the fact that he was a white supremacist? TIA.

The Colonel September 26, 2014 at 1:25 pm

Do I think it was a good thing Clempson was founded – sure, somebody needs to prepare future highway workers…
No, all kidding aside and I’ll only admit this this one time, I’m proud of Clemson and Winthrop and Coastal and all the rest. Our little podunk state has some remarkable public (and private) institutions of higher learning.
Tillman’s one truly great, magnanimous gesture, in my opinion was his support of higher learning. You could make the case that he did great things for the farmers in the state but his reasoning was less than honorable. As for his statue on state house grounds, it offends me mightily that we still have battles over a flag yet Ben “Pitchfork” Tillman stands smugly overlooking one of the most beautiful State House grounds in the country with nary a peep made.

CNSYD September 26, 2014 at 1:33 pm

Well said Colonel. IRT Tillman’s statue. How many South Carolinians do you think even have a clue who he was?

The Colonel September 26, 2014 at 1:38 pm

Counting me and you? I’d venture to guess very very few have any idea who he was.

The Colonel September 28, 2014 at 11:12 pm

Sorry, I have no idea what you’re trying to say here.

The Colonel September 26, 2014 at 2:30 pm

Counting me and you? I’d guess less than 10% of the state could correctly identify who he was without help. Less than that could tell you anything good or bad about him. Some Most of my life long South Carolina resident students have never heard of him.

Pitchfork Ben September 26, 2014 at 1:39 pm

Well, what do you know? I agree with you here. Still gets to me when people associate Tillman and Clemson as a racial smear and I’ll react every time. No institution in SC is immune from our history and we’d do well to leave it all in the past.

The Colonel September 26, 2014 at 2:32 pm

I’d disagree with you on the idea of leaving it in the past, admittedly I’m biased because I teach history, but unfortunately think it’s a good idea to drag the skeletons out once in a while to remind us of how far we’ve come and the repercussions of following the wrong people.

CNSYD September 26, 2014 at 3:49 pm

Unfortunately, Clemson passionatly embraces its racist heritage of Calhoun, Tillman, and Thurmond.

Yep I said it September 26, 2014 at 4:04 pm

cnsyd, you are a moron. Don’t you know that ALL South Carolinians passionately embrace our state’s racist heritage?
Most Clemson students/alumni either don’t know about or don’t give a rats ass about people from 100 years ago…they are just names on buildings/statues. They have nothing to do with today…but you already knew that. The only founding figure that’s ever even mentioned at Clemson is it’s namesake.

How does that work in regard to viewers posts on FITSNews?
