FLORENCE COMPANY SHEDDING POSITIONS

A Florence, S.C. company that employs 425 workers is laying off fifteen percent of its workforce – sending the positions to Texas and Mexico.

The company – ESAB Welding and Cutting Products – made the announcement late Friday. News of the sixty-five lost jobs was first reported by WBTW TV 13 (CBS – Florence/ Myrtle Beach, S.C.).

According to the station, ESAB “opened a new multi-million-dollar automation process center” three years ago and promised to bring new jobs to the area.

Oops …

A spokeswoman for the S.C. Department of Commerce wasn’t immediately available to comment on the lost jobs – or whether the company received taxpayer-funded incentives.

And of course South Carolina’s “Jobs Governor” – Nikki Haley – was nowhere to be found.

ESAB is the world’s largest producer of welding and cutting systems. The company is headquartered in Gothenburg, Sweden.

Over priced products that can’t compete with US Companies’: Miller and Lincoln Electric. Now out to cheapen their products down, and rip off USA workers.

So not employing USA workers is ripping them off?

Manufacturing in Mexico with lower pay and less regulation will let them cheapen the price of their products while taking the same amount of profit back to Sweden. Why would we buy their crap ?

If a company can’t make it with Pee Dee wages and Union County wages then the next stop will have to be……well, there won’t be a next stop. Even China jobs are coming back to the US.

“to Texas and Mexico”

That there alone is worth a laugh. Presumably part of Texas is more third-worldish than the Pee Dee region. Can that be so?

“Presumably part of Texas is more third-worldish than the Pee Dee region. Can that be so?”

Not necessarily, if the tax structure is significantly lower that can be incentive enough via operating costs.

Ever been to Lubbock and the cotton area of W. Texas? No? Well I have. It’s a lot more Third Worldish than the Pee Dee.
