SOUTH CAROLINA’S GOP EMPIRE BUILDERS ARE HAVING A BIG YEAR …
This website isn’t partial to many (if not most) of its candidates, but there’s no denying the consulting empire of Richard Quinn and Associates (a.k.a. “The Quinndom”) had a big week this week.
Both of the Quinndom’s statewide candidates in South Carolina – GOP lieutenant gubernatorial nominee Henry McMaster and “Republican” state superintendent of education nominee Molly Spearman – won convincing runoff elections over their fellow establishment rivals.
And while these two offices wield very little in the way of actual power, that’s neither here nor there when it comes to the ability of a consultant to get them elected …
McMaster and Spearman’s wins come two weeks after the Quinndom guided incumbent U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham – reviled by huge swaths of the GOP base – to a surprisingly easy primary victory. The Quinndom also assisted the campaign of incumbent State Treasurer Curtis Loftis – who dispatched a special interest rival in the June 10 primary with ease.
Love ’em or hate ’em (and their candidates), the fact remains the Quinndom is having a good year … right at the time when 2016 presidential campaigns come to South Carolina looking to make hiring decisions.

So tell us Sic Willie, how did these “huge swaths” end up so far in the minority?
44 percent isn’t “so far” in the minority. It’s a sizable “swath.”
As an aggregate of the opposition. But when you see how “thrilled” the voters were with their non Lindsey choices on an opponent by opponent basis, it is “so far”. But looking at the aggregate, “huge” still couldn’t muster a run off. BTW, when is TRav jumping in? What’s he waiting on?

Hey bro- you know that was a primary! That’s 44% of the hardcore voters who come out in not-so-hot June state and local primaries. That was around 293,000 voters (14% turnout). So, we’re left with two options in regard to your “reviled by huge swaths” thing. One; your theory is absolutely true, but the “huge swaths” all opted to stay home and not vote. This doesn’t sound logical, since “reviled” is a pretty strong term and should get someone motivated enough to vote, or; Two; There were no “huge swaths,” as evidenced by the fact that Graham pulled almost 60% of the vote (his next closest finisher didn’t even break 20). My theory (and please note that it has little or nothing to do with the validity of Graham’s positions) is that no “huge swaths” existed. The supposedly highly motivated “reviling swaths” vote amounted to only around 43% of the 293,000, despite the fact that voters so motivated should have overrun a low turnout primary with no national ticket and no really hot race. The swaths just aren’t there.
At least Warren Tompkins, who aint won much lately, got a badly needed cash infusion from SA’s bank loan. By the way, for that kind of dough why couldn’t he at least gotten her a speech coach.
Their AG, Wilson, got bitch slapped by Toal yesterday so wasn’t too great a day.
They are going to cut Alan loose if Henry wins the Lt. Gov race. The problem with the AG is to stupid to realize it. There are already rumors going around that the only reason Henry got in the race was bc the Quinns realized that Alan was toast after all these issues and they needed a candidate for Governor in 2018.
Hope FITS is right about: Wielding little power in the Lt. Gov. and Ed Super offices. I know he’s right about the Lt.
The Legislature is growing Charters schools in LARGE numbers, hope Spearman cannot stop that. And I’d love to see the State School Board go ULTRA-Right….and just blow Spearman and the Greedy BIG ED check-slurpers out the water…
