LAWMAKER’S WIFE REJECTS NON-DISCLOSURE DEAL OFFERED BY AGENCY
Amee Patrick – wife of S.C. Rep. Andy Patrick (RINO-Beaufort) – was interviewed this week by agents of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) in connection with what is shaping up to be one fireworks-filled divorce case.
According to sources familiar with the interview, the lead CIA agent – flown down from Langley, Virginia specifically for the meeting – offered Amee Patrick information that would ostensibly aid her in the case against her husband.
The only catch? She would have to sign a non-disclosure document prohibiting her from discussing anything related to the case – including her husband’s various shady business dealings.
Amee Patrick refused …
FITS has been following the Patricks’ case for months. In fact our exclusive reporting is what blew this story up – prompting Andy Patrick to withdraw his name as a candidate for S.C. Superintendent of Education last month (and announce his intention to give up his S.C. House seat).
We first learned of a CIA connection to this case when the Patricks’ divorce file was improperly sealed by a Lowcountry judge.
The reason? “National security,” our judicial sources eventually related back to us … which we thought was a joke.
Apparently not …
According to one of our federal law enforcement sources, the agency is leery of Patrick’s “corporate connections” coming to public light within the context of his divorce. Some of these connections were referenced in Amee Patrick’s affidavit – which was obtained by FITS even after the case file had been improperly sealed – although it’s not immediately clear how Andy Patrick is connected to the agency.
(CIA officials) are livid the agency has been dragged into this mess,” our source said.
A former U.S. Secret Service agent, Patrick was first elected to the S.C. House in 2010. He and Amee have five children.
Where’s this case going?
Who knows … we’re just along for the ride.
UPDATE: The (Hilton Head) Island Packet has a story up confirming our report.
