Clemson University’s football team climbed from No. 9 to No. 8 in the BCS standings on the strength of its 40-27 road win over Maryland last weekend, while the University of South Carolina jumped seven spots (from No. 21 to No. 14) after upsetting previously undefeated Missouri on the road.

Head coach Dabo Swinney’s Tigers (7-1, 5-1 ACC) play Virginia on the road in Charlottesville and Georgia Tech at home before wrapping up their season with a pair of non-conference games: at home against The Citadel and on the road against No. 14 South Carolina.

Meanwhile Steve Spurrier’s Gamecocks (6-2, 4-2 SEC) finish out their season with a four-game home stand, playing Mississippi State (Saturday), Florida (Nov. 16), Coastal Carolina (Nov. 23) and No. 8 Clemson (Nov. 30).

Remaining at the top of the BCS is two-time defending national champion Alabama, although there’s a change in the coveted No. 2 spot as the Oregon Ducks moved past Florida State on the strength of their big PAC 12 win over then No. 12 UCLA last weekend. Meanwhile Missouri fell four spots (from No. 5 to No. 9) after its loss to the Gamecocks.

The ACC has three teams ranked in the Top Ten of the standings (Florida State, Miami and Clemson) while the SEC has just two – Alabama and Missouri. The SEC has several teams knocking on the door though, No. 11 Auburn, No. 12 LSU, No. 13 Texas A&M and the fourteenth-ranked Gamecocks.
