For those of you who missed Sunday night’s big NFL showdown between the Indianapolis Colts and Denver Broncos, one of the highlights of the game was Colts’ punter/ kickoff specialist Pat McAfee “laying the wood” on Broncos’ return man Trindon Holliday.

Holliday is one of the most dangerous return specialists in the NFL – which he proved in last year’s AFC divisional playoff game against the Baltimore Ravens (when he set NFL records for the longest punt and kickoff returns for touchdowns).

Anyway the speedy Holliday had just one man to beat – McAfee – on a first quarter kickoff return Sunday night against the Colts.

Did he beat him?

Um … no. McAfee – a fifth-year pro out of West Virginia – took the perfect angle in covering the third-year standout from LSU, knocking Holliday off his feat out of bounds at the Indianapolis 49-yard-line.

Here are two angles of the hit …

“Oh, you’ve got to be kidding me!” NBC analyst Cris Collinsworth exclaimed. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen a kicker with this kind of hit!”

Neither has the NFL, apparently … which is why McAfee received the following note on his locker after the game (which he posted to Twitter).

Hmmmm … nothing “random” about that drug test.

In college ball, McAfee would have been kicked out of the game for targeting because he led with his helmet.

I was surprised that a flag wasn’t thrown on that play. Even in the NFL that’s not allowed. It was clear as day and the commentators didn’t say anything about it.
They should have kicked him out of the game.

He’s 6’1″ 220 Holliday is 5’5″ 177 – he could have killed the poor guy! Football should be banned, it’s obviously to dangerous.

That is true, Colonel. My only beef is they let him get away with targeting with his helmet like that. That shit will rattle your brain.
Wonder what an “all bets are off” football game would look like, rugby?

The clempson kickoff guy got a personal foul penalty against FSU. Rest of the team should have had his spunk.
