Clemson University’s football team climbed to No. 3 in the nation, according to the sportswriters – while the University of South Carolina tumbled out of the Top Ten in both major polls after getting thumped by Georgia.

After dispatching FCS opponent South Carolina State 52-13, Clemson climbed from No. 4 to No. 3 in the Associated Press Top 25 – swapping places with No. 4 Ohio State. The Tigers (2-0, 0-0 ACC) didn’t budge in the USA Today/ Coaches’ poll – coming in at No. 5.

South Carolina – which was ranked No. 6 in the nation a week ago – fell to No. 13 in the Associated Press poll and No. 14 in the coaches’ poll. The embarrassing defensive effort put forth by the Gamecocks (1-1, 0-1 SEC) enabled Georgia (1-1, 1-0 SEC) to climb back into the Top Ten – where it joined fellow SEC powerhouses Alabama (No. 1 in both polls), Texas A&M (No. 6 in both polls) and LSU (No. 8 in both polls).

Both Texas and Southern Cal were bounced from the AP after losses to Brigham Young and Washington State, respectively, while SEC East powerhouse Florida fell from No. 12 to No. 18 in the AP poll (and from No. 9 to  No. 20 in the coaches’ poll) after losing to in-state rival Miami.

The Hurricanes? They broke into the AP Top 25 for the first time in three years – clocking in at No. 15. In the coaches’ poll they climbed six spots from No. 24 to No. 18.

Bad start to the season, hopefully they don’t let it define the season itself.

No way Clemson is a #3 team, they just aren’t. They should be about #9 or so. No way they should be ranked over Ohio State, Louisville, A&M, Michigan, etc. They are a decent team this year but play no one really. The BCS will take that into account and be more realistic when those rankings come out in October.
Good thing the Gamecocks don’t have to play Byrnes High School next…they would beat them too. That defensive backfield is pathetic….I didn’t see any “fear” in Murray’s eyes regarding Clowney either…how does that foot taste Jadeveon?

Dirt Pecker fans are so funny when they get upset.

Yes they are a strange group! I thought Clemson beat #5 Georgia opening week?? Only a Cock would see our state embarrased on national TV and then bitch about where Clemson is ranked. Michigan? Really?
Keep up the good work Coots! A pizza bowl is in your future!

I’m not a Gamecock fan, never have been…and I’m definitely not a Spurrier fan. That being said Clemson is way over-rated and all the people who speak Pickenese are going to be really upset when the BSC rankings come out unless they get upset late Thursday night the 19th up in Raleigh. P.S. Ya’ll keep running Boyd every offensive play, you are going to wind up with no QB at some point. He’s no Cam Newton and can’t keep taking those hits.

This is where your bias for Clemson far outweighs your football intelligence. Boyd threw for 270 yards against Georgia (remember them) and rushed for 42 yards and 2 touchdowns. I don’t think that would constitute “Running Boyd every offensive play”.

We pray that Tajh does not get hurt. I don’t think that anyone can question his toughness, ability or desire to win. You are right one one point……He is not Cam Newton, but he sure is hell is not Connor Shaw either!
Dabo and team appear to have things going fairly well right now.
I would put my energy in trying to figure out what hapned to the self proclaimed “National Football power” and “Top Tier” SEC team. Y’all have some issues.
Stciking the “thumb” square up y’alls ass in Willy Brice in November will be the end of this little run the cocks have had.
Back to reality!

You are correct. Clemson plays no one, like UGA. You remember UGA don’t you? They were in all the papers Sunday.

How long can you ride that win over Georgia, tho? Next challenge is FSU, midseason.

Reply
CNSYD September 9, 2013 at 10:07 am

Longer that Carl’s Jr.

TontoBubbaGoldstein September 9, 2013 at 10:54 am

We’ll ride it until at least October 19, thank you.

Obviously a hell of a lot longer that you!

And that’s it. And Georgia ain’t “all that” either. They won’t play anyone of note until Florida State and SC. Teams like “Sisters for Charity” and the like won’t rank well in the BCS. Would love to see them play Alabama or Ohio State but that won’t happen and they won’t play either one of them for the National Championship either. Get pissed at the BSC…you do know about it don’t you?

Between UGA, Clemson and Carl’s Jr, which one has ALA or The OSU on their schedule? So what’s your point? BCS? I believe that is something Carl’s Jr has never played in.

…and has there EVER been a time in college football history when THE OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY hasn’t been overrated?

***The Florida Gators, a couple of Outback bowls, and Charlie Baughman are holding on lines 1 through 4…..

Bama and Ohio State will both lose during the season. We’ll play Oregon.

You heard it here first..

Surely you don’t mean SCAR!!!

TBG absolutely didn’t mean SCAR…

…and don’t call me “Shirley”.

Frank Howard September 9, 2013 at 10:00 am

I was looking forward to playing for the vicarious SEC East Championship at Willy Brice on Nov. 30. You know, beat Ga, then beat USC East. Alas, your Gamecocks dropped a turd in the punchbowl on Saturday.

Oh well, there’s always “next year.”

They are a decent team this year but play no one really.

Unless Sakerlina folds like a cheap paper plate at a church picnic with way too much mac-n-cheese and potato salad piled on it, Clemson is likely to play three teams ranked in the top ten. What more do you want?

Clemson gets it easy while Scar faces a veritable “murderer’s row” schedule…Vandy, UCF and Kentucky. Then it gets really tough with Arkansas, Tennessee and Missouri…where are they all ranked again? Nov 16 is the next tough game for the chickens…a Florida team that just lost to a weak ACC school. LMAO

HBC needs to have Cocks at 7-1 on Nov 1st to have a crack at finishing in top 10 for the season. Giving Clemson the Thumb would put us in the top 5 or 6 but along with at least two other SEC schools.
His defensive staff needs to decide whether they want to coach or form a new MMA league.
