Based on his incessant hip hop-themed tweets and unrequited love of “complaint rock,” you might think our founding editor had no appreciation for real music.

Not so …

As it turns out Sic Willie is quite the classical music connoisseur – especially when it comes to the soaring symphonies of German maestro Ludwig von Beethoven (particularly the composer’s sixth, seventh and ninth symphonies).

If you’re also a Beethoven fan, the website Living Social has a deal for you …

It’s an event being held at the Sottile Theater in Charleston, S.C. next month called “Beethoven: His Women and His Music.”

“A collaboration by the Chamber Music Charleston and Actors’ Theatre of South Carolina, this performance explores the famous maestro’s two passions with a performance on Friday, September 20,” the offer states.

Cost? Not bad: A pair of tickets will run you $20 …

Unable to make it to Charleston for the performance? Then do yourself a favor and pick up a copy of Immortal Beloved, the 1994 movie starring Gary Oldman as Beethoven (which explores the same themes). It’s available on Amazon for $12.

Culture on the cheap, people …

I enjoyed the movie Amadeus, but I’ve never seen Immortal Beloved. I’ll have to check it out.
