Our August 10th breakfast club meeting will feature a panel discussion with Senators Sean Bennett, Chip Campsen, and Paul Thurmond. They will update us on the Ethics Reform bill, why the bill did not pass and what the future of the bill will be.
For the past ten years, this organization has had monthly meetings which have featured candidates, policy experts, and grass-roots Republican party activists who have promoted candidacies and discussed current issues. Combined with an “open mike” question-and-answer session, the general public has been able to learn about important issues concerns on these issues, as well as grill candidates for public office.
Past speakers have included each of the current GOP national and statewide office holders, including, Senator Tim Scott, Senator Jim DeMint, Congressman and former Governor Mark Sanford, Speaker of the House Bobby Harrell, as well as many regional legislators and representatives from grassroots and policy advocacy organizations such as Gun Owners of America, Fair Tax, and the South Carolina Policy Council.
Breakfast is served for $7.25 per attendee, and the general public is cordially invited to attend, regardless of political affiliation.

The past speakers list reads like a bunch of alcoholics at a teetotalers convention. Maybe we should leave ethics reform to ethicists and not self-serving politicians.

Amen. All hypocrites. The State’s recent “top ten” list of legislators eating from the S.C. taxpayers’ trough includes lawyer Thurmond ($700,000 – suing MUSC doctors) and “businessman” Campsen ($350,000 – renting his dock to Patriots Point – part of his Ft. Sumter Cruise tour boat monopoly / franchise with the National Parks Service).
The last time George and Chip Campsen had to bid on that long-term NPS contract, they had competition from a very reputable harbor tour boat company in Florida. So they got Fritz Hollings to help modify the contract specifications and voila — the Florida company was disqualified.
The third senator, Bennett, from Summerville, financed his campaign with money from organizations that nobody could even find. He’s a pawn of the establishment — real estate, construction, banking, chamber of commerce.
