Today, the South Carolina Democratic Party blasted Governor Haley and her South Carolina Republican Party for calling the IRS “Obama’s Gestapo” in a fundraising email. Chairman Jaime Harrison released this statement:

“Just two months ago, Nikki Haley spent three days defending a white supremacist that she appointed co-chair of her campaign and now her party is equating its political opponents to the Nazi police that oversaw the imprisonment and mass-murder of millions of innocent people. It’s a disgusting display that proves Nikki Haley truly knows no bounds when it comes to hypocrisy and has no standards for decency and standing up for rights.

“As the leader of her party, Governor Haley should condemn these hateful remarks. And as Chairman of the SCGOP, Matt Moore should apologize to the people of South Carolina and donate any money raised from this email to charity.”

Background:

Today, the SCGOP sent a fundraising blast calling the IRS “Obama’s Gestapo.”

In May, Nikki Haley stood by a white nationalist leader serving as co-chair of her reelection campaign for three days while he doubled-down on his divisive rhetoric before resigning:

· Southern Poverty Law Center: SC Governor Names White Nationalist to Reelection Committee. [SPLC, 5/22/13]

· Haley rebuffs Dem demands that she dismiss controversial advisor. “Gov. Nikki Haley’s re-election campaign has no plans to remove a controversial volunteer who S.C. Democrats and others say has ties to white supremacist groups…. ‘Is it racist to be proud of your own heritage? Is it racist to want to keep your own heritage pure?’ Garcia-Quintana said.” [The State, 5/24/13]

· Nikki Haley: No Plans to Remove Controversial Volunteer. “Over the past week, several media outlets have reported that one of the volunteers for Gov. Nikki Haley’s re-election has been active in groups linked to right-wing extremism. On Friday, Haley’s political director Tim Pearson told Patch Haley has no plans to ask the volunteer, Roan Garcia-Quintana, to step down from the team of 170-plus volunteers.” [Patch, 5/24/13]

Maybe the Southern Avenger can jump on Nikki’s campaign now that Rand Paul has dropped his second white supremacist and neo-confederate staffer. God, I love the GOP.

I’ve been really curious about this whole Southern Avenger thing.

What did Jack Hunter say that was racist?

Maybe she’s just mad because her parents are in so much trouble. Nothing like a near half million dollar judgement to mess you up.

lol….has anyone actually ever “apologized” in the political arena when the opposition party calls for it?

No kidding. It is like an 80’s wrestling match where Flair would be pounding some jobber (probably some guy with green knee pads and a cheap satin jacket, like Gene Ligon or George South), and Referee Extraordinaire Tommy Young (or occasionally Scrappy McGowan) would ask the jobber “do you give it up?”, yet the jobber never would quit. Ever.

But ‘Reichs Mistress of Public Enlightenment and Propaganda’ Garcia-Quintana, that’s another matter.
