The Republican and Democratic parties of Fairfield County, S.C. have issued a joint statement demanding the resignation of the county’s top bureaucrat, Phil Hinley.
What did Hinley do? According to WIS TV 10 (NBC – Columbia, S.C.), he’s been viewing and disseminating porn from his taxpayer-funded computer – which is obviously a big “no-no.”
“Occasionally there are issues that transcend partisan divide, issues that are of such importance that they affect entire populations and entire communities,” Fairfield GOP chairman Kevin Thomas and Democratic chairman Tangee B. Jacobs said in a joint statement. “The ongoing issue of Fairfield County’s Administrator Phil Hinely viewing and disseminating pornographic materials using a county computer, and Fairfield County’s elected Councils failure to adequately deal with this embarrassment rises to that level. The Fairfield County Democrat Party and the Fairfield County Republican Party as well as prominent concerned citizens acting in a non-partisan manner call on Mr. Phil Hinely to resign or County Council to fire him. We stand united together on this issue.”
To date, Hinley has been rebuked by the local government and had his $131,000 annual salary (not counting benefits) docked by five percent.
The S.C. State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) is currently investigating Hinley’s hard drive in the wake of the WIS report.
