Statement from Richland County Fair Elections leader Michael Letts:

On November 6, thousands of voters – perhaps as many as 10,000 – were disenfranchised because of the still-unexplained actions of the Richland County Board of Elections.

Here’s the worst part: Nothing has changed.

The Election Commission director still has pretty much the same job at about the same salary.

We’ll never know why the commission ignored the requests of poll workers who asked for more voting machines.

We’ll never know the real reason the Richland delegation chairman replaced the former elections director with a much less experienced one.

Honestly, it’s amazing that there still hasn’t been an investigation. The Solicitor, who just last year was paying big bucks to the same firm that was managing the tax increase campaign, has refused to even respond to our requests for an investigation. So we’ll never know why the chairman of the Richland delegation lists the exact same phone number and address as Banco, the firm that managed the tax campaign…. and whether that played a role in his curious choice for an elections director.

Last fall’s Election Mess wasn’t the fault of Lillian McBride. It was the fault of a system that allowed it to happen… a system in which no one seems to be held accountable.

We will continue to push for a full investigation to find out what happened on Election Day.
