bakari sellers

S.C. Rep. Bakari Sellers – who at the ripe old age of 28 has already served three terms in the S.C. House of Representatives – will campaign for statewide office in 2014.

However his target will NOT be the S.C. Secretary of State’s office, as several Palmetto political twitterers were … well, tweeting.

That’s not surprising.┬áLast time we checked the Secretary of State’s office (which should have been eliminated years ago) was a springboard to … complete and total irrelevancy.

Seriously … can anybody name the current S.C. Secretary of State? We can (it’s third-term incumbent Mark Hammond of Spartanburg, S.C.) ┬ábut remember it’s our job to cover South Carolina politics. Having said that, we haven’t covered Hammond since March of 2009 – when he was displaying his not-so-firm grasp of the English language.

In other words this office has done nothing of consequence in nearly four years.

So … which office will Sellers’ seek?

Guess we’ll have to wait and see, but the moderate young Democrat – who has impressed us with his substantive approach to politics and policy (and his willingness to break from liberal dogma) – will be a viable contender for whatever office he seeks.

UPDATE: And there you have it …
