Antjuan Seawright Announces For Richland One School Board

Columbia, SC – Columbia public relations executive Antjuan Seawright announced his candidacy for Richland School District One School Board today. Seawright is seeking one of two at-large seats on the school board. Elections for the school board, which include both Columbia’s urban schools and lower Richland County’s rural schools, will be held in November of this year.

Seawright, 27, is President and CEO of Sunrise Communications. He is running to improve after school, weekend and summer enrichment programs; to help innovate classroom and technical skills through programs such as “One Child, One Computer;” to advance intergovernmental and community partnerships; to increase the focus on Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM); to strengthen pre-K programs (including literacy initiatives); to enhance workforce readiness and planning within curriculum and to bring more accountability and fiscal responsibility to Richland School District One.

“I believe my candidacy brings a fresh perspective to the Richland One School Board. As a businessman, I see firsthand, every day how education, business, economic development and job creation go hand-in-hand,” says Seawright. “Therefore, it is essential that our students receive the best quality education, so that they are able to effectively compete in an ever-changing global society. The long-term success of any community hinges on the success of its local school district,” says Seawright.

Seawright is a 2008 graduate of Winthrop University, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and Marketing. More recently, he is a 2010 graduate of Webster University, where he received his Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA). He is also very active in the community, serving on several boards in the Midlands, including Meadowfield Elementary School’s Improvement Council. He is a former board member for the Carolina School for Inquiry (Richland School District One Public Charter School).

As you can see, I have every intention of working toward improving our schools for the better in Richland School District One. When our schools are thriving, our communities are also thriving. Please join us in our effort to ensure that every child has the educational opportunity to reach their God-given potential!
