TAKE THAT, TRIKKI NIKKI
We rarely agree with anything written by The (Columbia, S.C.) State newspaper’s lead editorial writer Cindi Ross Scoppe (a.k.a. Pippi Wrongstockings). Why not? Because by and large she’s nothing but a broken record for our state’s failed status quo – particularly our worst-in-the-nation public school system.
According to Pippi … err, Cindi … everything wrong with South Carolina can be fixed by just a little more government, which come to think of it is the same ideology being practiced by Gov. Nikki Haley.
Anyway, in our coverage of the Haley administration’s decision to give her 14-year-old daughter a government position (and Haley’s hissy fit of a response) we have consistently argued one basic point …
“If Haley didn’t want her daughter to be the subject of public scrutiny, then she probably shouldn’t have gotten her a taxpayer-funded job,” we wrote last week.
Apparently Pippi agrees with us … and then some.
“It’s not that the first daughter got a job, but that her mother threw a temper tantrum when reporters dared to question her about it,” she wrote.
Pippi went on to say that “when the governor allowed her daughter to go on the state payroll, she transformed her from the minor child of a chief executive, deserving of a high level of privacy, to a state employee.”
Exactly …
“We’ve known for some time that our governor has an imperious streak,” Pippi continued. “But the unprofessional way she handled this incident suggests that she honestly believed no one would notice that her child was working within the confines of the state’s most scrutinized fishbowl. This calls to mind those self-delusional, narcissistic politicians who simultaneously believe that they won’t have to answer for their actions because no one could possibly find out about them and that they can talk their way out of any problem because the world revolves around them. It’s the sort of cognitive dissonance we usually see when politicians engage in breathtakingly reckless behavior that leads to self-destruction.”
Damn …
From the ideological right (us) to the ideological left (The State), Haley is getting flat out pwned on this issue … and deservedly so. More than just another example of bad judgment, this incident has turned into another telling indicator of her delusional world view and fundamental lack of character.
