SOUTH CAROLINA LAWMAKERS LIVING THE HIGH LIFE …
We reported earlier this week about S.C. Sen. Lee Bright attending a big American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) conference in Salt Lake City, Utah … the site of Gov. Nikki Haley’s alleged Father’s Day 2008 boot-knockin’ with lobbyist Larry Marchant.
Apparently Bright isn’t the only South Carolina elected official participating in this junket.
According to our sources, at least six other Palmetto State Senators are attending this conference. In fact Bright is set to join Senators Thomas Alexander (RINO-Oconee), Dick Elliott (D-Horry), Mike Fair (RINO-Greenville), Clementa Pinckney (D-Jasper), Phil Shoopman (R-Greenville) and Kent Williams (D-Williamsburg) at a dinner in Salt Lake City this week sponsored by the Mullikin Law Firm.
S.C. Reps. Liston Barfield (RINO-Horry), Alan Clemmons (RINO-Horry), Mike Forrester (RINO-Spartanburg), Phillip Owens (RINO-Pickens) and Garry Smith (R-Greenville) are also said to be attending the dinner.
Who else will be there? A veritable flood of lobbyists …
A Camden, S.C.-based firm, Mullikin raised eyebrows recently when it hired Wes Sandifer – son of powerful S.C. Labor Commerce and Industry Chairman Bill Sandifer – to handle its government relations practice.
Sandifer, of course, is famous for the “Mother of All Unfortunately Ending Junkets,” a 2010 trip to Panama that nearly cost the lawmaker his life.
UPDATE: Sen. Shoopman tells FITS that he will not be attending the Mullikin dinner.
