DUANE PARRISH: WORKIN’ HARD OR HARDLY WORKIN’?
When his company isn’t running local hotels into the ground, S.C. Parks Recreation and Tourism (SCPRT) director Duane Parrish spends his time hobnobbing on your dime in London.
No … seriously.
Parrish, who led a South Carolina tourism delegation to London for Queen Elizabeth’s “Diamond Jubilee” this week, has also been staying pretty busy online judging by his recent Facebook activity.

Wow …
“What Girls Really Do When They Fight With Boyfriends?” (watch it here).
“Hidden Camera – Girlfriend Swap?” (watch it here).
Nice ….
Appointed to his post last year by S.C. Gov. Nikki Haley, Parrish is clearly working hard for his $112,504 annual salary (which doesn’t include benefits and international travel).
Parrish – whose projections of “double digit growth” in the Palmetto State tourism economy have thus far failed to materialize – was positively giddy about his London trip, particularly when South Carolina’s tourism delegation was briefly featured on The Today Show.
In fact he told The (Charleston, S.C.) Post and Courier that he couldn’t equate that sort of national TV coverage in dollars.
Well we can.

Hmmmm …

Sheesh … did the audio-visual club at Lexington Middle School put that together?
As we’ve said on numerous occasions in the past, government has absolutely no business spending tax dollars on tourism marketing. It simply isn’t a core function of government. Tourism should be responsible for marketing itself – just like any other industry.
