Columbia, SC – House Democratic Leader Harry Ott applauded the House Ethics Committee for voting to reopen the investigation into Nikki Haley on Friday. By a unanimous vote, the committee voted to request employment documents from Haley’s former employer, Lexington Medical Center, and its subsequent charity foundation. Serious allegations have been made on behalf of members of Governor Haley’s own party that she illegally lobbied for Lexington Medical Center while she was a member of the House. House Minority Leader Harry Ott issued the following statement in response to the Committee’s decision:
“I commend the House Ethics Committee for acknowledging that much more evidence may still exist that supports the charges against Governor Haley. Their decision to request additional documents reopens a case that should have never been closed. Democrats have consistently asked for an open and transparent investigation into these charges, and so far one has not taken place. Today’s decision is a step in the right direction, but we still believe a public hearing with sworn testimony is necessary to determine whether any laws were broken.”
