S.C. BALLOT CONTROVERSY

QUESTION: You dog out Senator Larry Martin all the time. How about showing him some props for trying to get disqualified candidates (including his own opponent) back on the ballot?

FITS: Really? Martin is grandstanding. He knows that this legislation is dead in  the water procedurally.

MORE S.C. BALLOT CONTROVERSY

QUESTION: Why isn’t Nikki Haley beating the drum on behalf of the candidates who were taken off the ballot?

FITS: Because Nikki Haley isn’t a reformer … and because she needs those incumbents to refrain from reopening an ethics investigation into her dirty pre-gubernatorial dealings.

***

STILL MORE S.C. BALLOT CONTROVERSY

COMMENT: You made some serious allegations against S.C. Senate candidate Katrina Shealy. I hope for your sake that you can back them up.

FITS: Yes we did … and yes we can. Stay tuned …

NIKKI HALEY ETHICS INVESTIGATION

TIP: There was an excellent editorial in the Hilton Head paper on the sham ruling by the (S.C.) house ethics committee last week.

FITS: Absolutely … this editorial on the ethics committee’s mishandling of the Haley investigation is a must-read for anyone who has been following this story. The Hilton Head Island Packet‘s editorial board said it perfectly.

NIKKI HALEY’S “TRANSPARENCY” SPREADS TO TEXAS

TIP: Looks like Eleanor Kitzman is following in the governor’s footsteps on transparency issues in her new job.

FITS: Sheesh … color us not even remotely surprised.

NIKKI HALEY’S VEEPSTAKES

COMMENT: Did you see this? What the fuck? The bitch is teflon. I have never seen anything like it.

FITS: Yup … “Teflon Trikki.”

***

CATHERINE TEMPLETON FLUFF

TIP: Your new girlfriend Catherine Templeton got a puff piece in the Charleston paper this weekend.

FITS: Wait … is it behind their new pay wall? Oh well … haven’t read the story yet but the pic is certainly nice.

***

TAX MONEY FOR RELIGIOUS PROGRAM

TIP: Big story on some of your favorite people.

FITS: Every year we blow the lid on this colossal waste of tax dollars … and every year lawmakers put money in the budget for it.

***

THE STATE’S “SALARY DATABASE”

QUESTION: Why did The (Columbia, S.C.) State stop reporting public salaries for some state agencies? For example, the Retirement Systems Investment Commission, which is full of overpaid staff, is no longer listed. Others are missing as well. What’s the deal?

FITS: Good question … we asked a reporter over there but didn’t hear anything back. We’ll see what we can find out.

***

LEXINGTON CORONER CANDIDATE

TIP: You REALLY need to look into former Richland County Coroner Frank Barron (who is running for the same office in Lexington County). There is some scary stuff in his past that your website needs to investigate.

FITS: We grew up in Richland County while he was the coroner. And yes, we’ve heard some bizarre stuff from a number of different sources. Worth looking into for sure … thanks for the tip!

***

ANDRE BAUER’S NEW AD

TIP: Andre  Bauer has launched a new TV ad.

FITS: Sheesh … trusting Andre Bauer to “get America working again” is like trusting Liberace with the eradication of rhinestones.

***

DEATH ROW NUMBERS

TIP: Did you see this story?

FITS: We didn’t … but thanks for sending. So much for South Carolina being tough on crime, right? We may have to do a post on this …

***

DON’T CROSS CHIP LIMEHOUSE

TIP: You should read this … in light of your previous coverage of his parking scams.

FITS: Local governments should probably just assume at this point that S.C. Rep. Chip Limehouse is going to “get his nut” no matter what.

***

IN OTHER CLEMSON NEWS …

TIP: Lots of talk of Big XVII by June or July …

FITS: We’re hearing that too (and lots of people are writing about it). We still think it’s more likely the ACC will

***

ERIC CANTOR’S SELLOUT

TIP: In your otherwise excellent post last week you neglected to mention that Eric Cantor’s group is also campaigning against a Tea Party candidate in North Carolina’s eighth congressional district. The good guy is Scott Keadle. The RINO (who just got $50,000 from Cantor’s group) is Richard Hudson.

FITS: We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again … Cantor (like most establishment Republicans in this country) is a hypocritical piece of shit.

***

2012 ELECTION

TIP: Check out this story highlighting the similarities between Barack Obama and Mitt Romney.

FITS: Yup … we’ve been screaming that for months (most recently this weekend).

***

MORE 2012 ELECTION

TIP: Have you seen this?

FITS: Brilliant! Although S.C. Comptroller General Richard Eckstrom (who hates Mormons, btw) is probably jealous.
