MUD FLIES EARLY IN CONTESTED S.C. SENATE RACE
Supporters of S.C. Senate candidate Katrina Shealy – who fancies herself as something of a 21st Century Jesus – are accusing incumbent State Sen. Jakie Knotts (RINO-Lexington) of roughing up a prostitute during a 2000 incident in a motor home at the old S.C. Farmer’s Market. However the woman in question – who goes by the name of “Angel” – is denying the allegation, according to several of her former associates at the Southern Gentleman’s Club, a defunct strip club in West Columbia, S.C.
FITS attempted to speak directly to “Angel,” but she declined to be interviewed.
“It’s not true,” one of the former exotic dancer’s co-workers told FITS, though, adding that supporters of Shealy attempted to leak the same allegation four years ago.
Additionally, both of the gentlemen alleged to have been inside the motor home with Knotts and “Angel” at the time of the incident is said to have taken place are denying the reports.
A spokesman for Knotts wasn’t immediately available for comment, but supporters of the longtime Lexington County politician who spoke with FITS confidentially placed the blame for the rumor on S.C. Gov. Nikki Haley, a longtime Knotts’ antagonist (and a vocal supporter of Shealy’s).
They also issued a stern warning for the governor – and her husband.
“With all the time they spend in titty bars they ought not be pointing fingers,” one Knotts supporter told us. “Titty bars have cameras – and girls that like to talk.”
Hot damn!
Knotts – a former law enforcement officer known as “Ol’ Knocky” for his head-thumping methods – is one of the state’s most fiscally liberal “Republicans.” In fact, he benefited from extensive Democratic crossover support to win a runoff election against Shealy in their 2008 match up.
Knotts also earned infamy in June 2010 when he referred to then-S.C. Rep. Nikki Haley as a “rag head” – although he’s since dialed down his rhetoric a bit (and even introduced a piece of legislation regarding taxpayer-funded incentives that we support).
So … do we believe there’s a chance “Ol Knocky” knocked around a woman of negotiable virtue in a motor home a dozen years ago?
Um … yes. A better than average chance, even.
Having said that, it seems unlikely that such a charge will ever be proven (sound familiar?) and by virtue of raising the issue Team Haley … err, Team Shealy … has probably bitten off more “Ol’ Knocky” than they can chew (not to mention sacrificed their innocence when it comes to bitching and moaning about “the dark side of politics”).
One thing is for certain, though … the Knotts vs. Haley cage match that’s been drawing crowds in Lexington County for years certainly appears poised to go statewide.

You better go back and check ethics report records lexconserv. Shealy did not take any personal money from her campaign account and only paid real expenses. I probably wouldn’t bring that up if I were a Knotts supporter. His ethics reports are VERY suspect. Other than taking too much money from supporters -Every meal he eats is on his ethics report. I also think the tax thing was cleared up if I remember correctly but you might want to check some of his “investments” before you go worrying about 1 property tax bill. Be careful what you ask for…I think I read something like that in the original post. If you start digging be prepared to defend it from your side.

Say what you will about Jake. He supports retirees and old people. He is always there and never absent. He is accessible and always returns emails, letters and phone calls. He will listen and will sometimes change his mind based on the facts. I know this from personal experience over a number of years. A righteous ideologue like Katrina Shealy is unlikely to have those characteristics. So, flawed as he may be, if those are the choices, Jake has my vote.

Reading over this, the sad thing for Jakie is that it is so believable. Even if it’s not true, it sure sounds like it is. He’s done nothing to make us think he’s incapable of such behavior. His record as a police officer certainly adds credence to the claims against him. I’d hate to have to be the one defending him.

That being said, if three names were on the ballot and you had to chose between (1) Jakie Knotts (2) Katrina Shealy or (3) Kara Gormley, who would you vote for?
