Congratulations, South Carolina!

YOU ELECTED ROMNEY, “JUST OLDER, AND FATTER”

South Carolina Republicans voted en masse last weekend for former U.S. Speaker Newt Gingrich – giving the rotund “Republican” a resounding victory in the state’s pivotal “First in the South” presidential primary.

According to the latest numbers from the S.C. Election Commission, a total of 243,153 South Carolina Republicans (or 40.4 percent of the GOP primary electorate) voted for Gingrich – most of them under the mistaken assumption that he somehow represented a “conservative alternative” to former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney.

Before we devote any ink to an analysis of Gingrich’s big win, here are a few nuggets on “King Newt” that are worth considering …

*He betrayed the 1994 Republican Revolution almost as soon as his party took office in 1995.

*He was forced to pay a $300,000 fine after he was caught lying to House ethics investigators in 1997.

*He was in the midst of an extramarital affair at the same time he was demanding Bill Clinton’s resignation over an affair with an intern.

*He was forced from office in 1998 by his own party after losing the mid-term elections that year.

*After leaving Congress, he received $1.6 million from government-backed (now government-owned) mortgage behemoth Freddie Mac, one of the prime culprits of the sub-prime mortgage fiasco.

*In 2006, a health care think tank he founded praised former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney’s health care proposal – as well as its underlying individual mandate (which he previously praised as the “conservative position”).

*In 2008, he sat on a sofa with Nancy Pelosi in support of radical climate change legislation. Prior to that, Gingrich said he would “strongly support” the controversial cap and trade system proposed by Barack Obama.

*He opposes deporting illegal immigrants, yet supports penalizing employers who hire undocumented workers (whether they know it or not).

*Last spring, he referred to a middle-of-the-road Republican spending plan offered by U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan “radical change” and “right-wing social engineering.”

“The fact that a demonstrated sellout like Gingrich is being seriously considered by Republicans in 2012 is a testament to the ongoing ideological bankruptcy of the GOP establishment,” we wrote a year ago in our initial assessment of the 2012 field.

“Other than Romney we consider him to be the least fiscally conservative, least trustworthy of any of the Republican candidates seeking the nomination,” we wrote more recently.

Or as our founding editor has taken to saying recently, “he is Romney … just older, and fatter.”

Of course in a state run by “Republicans in Name Only,” the selection of Gingrich as its presidential choice is hardly surprising. Seriously … just look at our governor, lieutenant governor, House Speaker and Senate President.

Or look at the last president South Carolina picked …

Congratulations, South Carolina … you really are as dumb as we thinks you is.

    All true.

But perhaps we just wanted to scare the shit out of the status quo, perhaps we just wanted to fuck with the party leaders, perhaps we just wanted to say ” hey Barry debate this”.

I agree with everything Ron Paul says does not mean I can not take my vote a put it where it scares the most people. Fear is a powerful weapon and trust me the GOP is scared shitless. The Salt Lake Compact is dead, the deal is off because Bain will not release any records and all of Newts foibles are on line. Newt can not do angry.

We are going to a convention, nothing Iowa or NH or SC does in the future will ever matter again.

So tens of thousands of South Carolinians conspired to vote to give Newt a resounding victory Saturday, therefore, scaring the establishment, instead of just casting their vote for Ron Paul, and giving Mr. Paul a resounding victory.

Yes, that does sound like a scheme someone would cook-up in South Carolina.

so colonel as long as its along your party lines you have no issues with removing judges for political reasons/causes but if it was a gop leaning judge you would be up in arms about trashing the constitution correct? That sir is the definition of hypocrisy..but hey at least your honest about it..

    • By The Colonel January 23, 2012 at 12:47 pm

No, I just can’t stand the 9th Circut Court – the most liberal and overturned court in the land. Newt (or Obama for that matter) could never do it because as you suggest, it is totally un-Constitutional. It is legal to recall some judges and it happens occasionally. Lest you forget, it was the king of the liberals – Roosevelt who attempted to circumvent his inability to remove a judge by adding judges.

    • By Ohmaar January 23, 2012 at 3:09 pm

Yes, it’s unconstitutional to summarily remove district court judges from office. However, it’s COMPLETELY constitutional to simply eliminate their district. And it has the delicious benefit of already having been done before.

Who was the last Speaker of the House to submit a balanced budget?

Who was the last DEMOCRATIC Speaker of the House to submit a balanced budget? (Or, if you prefer, who was the last Democratic Speaker of the House to submit any budget — balanced or otherwise?)

    • By Ohmaar January 23, 2012 at 3:22 pm

Yes, Obama2012, Obama was handed a mess. But he CAMPAIGNED on the idea that he was the man to FIX the mess. All he has done is make it worse. That ain’t fixing it.

Does he even have a PLAN to fix it? Because to date, he certainly hasn’t proposed anything that even attempts to fix it.

He killed Bin Laden. Didn’t fix the economy.
He pulled troops out of Iraq. Didn’t fix the economy.
He passed health reform. Actually makes the economy worse.
He took over GM. Didn’t fix the economy.
He added $6.5 Trillion to the debt. Damn! Did YOU get any? I didn’t think so. But SOMEBODY sure did! Obama took care of his friends: WALL STREET!!

    • By Robert January 23, 2012 at 12:35 pm

The Office of Management and Budget’s historical tables show total outlays (table 1.1) continued to rise from fiscal year 1995 ($1.5 trillion) to fiscal year 2000 ($1.8 trillion). That’s an increase of $273.2 billion, or 18 percent.

    • By Robert January 23, 2012 at 12:37 pm

The record surplus — as measured in dollars — came in fiscal year 2000: $236.2 billion. But those spending bills were introduced and signed into law between May 1999 and November 1999. Gingrich announced in November 1998 that he would resign as speaker. He left Congress altogether in January 1999

Yeah, spending went up. But we had the economic production generating revenue to cover it (hence the balanced budgets and surpluses.)

The PROBLEMS began when they booted Newt and all the Republicans sat down at the gravy train with their Democrat buddies.

It’s an incredible study in hypocrisy.

I’m not sure who’d burn down what’s left of our country faster, Obama or Newt.

From that perspective, Newt may not be a bad choice to go ahead and get things over with so we can move on to the next stage, whatever it is.

Concerned White House Aides Say Obama Has Not Stopped Laughing Since Saturday Night
    Staff Mystified by Uncharacteristic Giddiness

WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report) – White House aides are alarmed by uncharacteristic behavior on the part of President Obama, who they say has been laughing uncontrollably since 7 PM Saturday night.

The aides, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said that they heard “unusual howls” coming from the Oval Office just after the seven o’clock hour on Saturday evening, causing them to rush to the President to ascertain the cause of the uproar.

“It was weird,” one aide said. “He was just watching cable news.”

The staff members thought little of the normally reserved President’s giggle attack until it continued throughout the weekend, which saw Mr. Obama laughing uncontrollably and stopping only to gasp for air.

Ever since Saturday, Mr. Obama has been oddly giddy throughout White House staff meetings, the aide said, and has been seen doodling the initials “N.G.” in the margins of memos “like a love-struck schoolgirl.”

“The only thing we can think of that N.G. might stand for is Not Good,” the aide said. “But why would he be so happy about something that’s not good?”

Mr. Obama’s high spirits were on evidence today in a brief White House appearance, in which the President made the following statement about the administration’s energy policies: “Going forward, the United States of America will bwahahahahahahahahahahahaha.”

Don’t think you understood what I’m saying, S.C. is still a free state where people can vote for who they wish. I hate being told I must do this or must do that. we as a free people did not vote for Romney just because we were told that we are sheep and that we could only cast a vote for one person. If this state had voted the way the news media had told us to vote your man Paul would have had no votes cast. If we had gone with the national polls they would have called the game weeks before the coin toss and declaired Romney the winner with everyone else getting 0 votes. So you should be proud that your home state proved they are not Sheep even if you don’t like the results of a free election.

      UpState Native,

While I completely respect their right to do so, I am not proud of anyone who would support a biggot like Newt. Free election? What makes you so sure it was free? Electronic voting machines, votes reported from a spanish company, and many irregularities reported during the count would say it was otherwise.

  23. By snodgrass January 23, 2012 at 1:04 pm

For the past couple of days, I’ve been reading with amusement as the juvenile delinquents who frequent this forum have mocked Ron Paul. What they’re too dense to realize is that he is being vindicated by the reality of each day’s headlines.

The economy is becoming a full blown crisis. The combustible mixture of nation building and military adventurism is blowing up in the face of neoconservatives. And even as he warns us that our civil liberties are in dire jeopardy, Ron Paul’s own son, a highly recognizable U.S. senator, is absurdly targeted as a potential terrorist by a surrogate of the ever growing police state.

The most amusing part of all this is that the candidates defended by the mental pygmies here are running campaigns which promise to perpetuate this insanity. (Keep it up boys and girls. Maybe the king will let you kiss his ring when your blistered lips have healed.)

I think it’s futile for Ron Paul to continue his association with the GOP, since they will not allow him the nomination and have nothing to contribute at a brokered convention. However, I find it very gratifying that his desire to stay with the GOP will prove to be a festering boil on the backside of the establishment.

You Libertarians confront a catch 22 problem

Both parties the Republicans probably a little more are beholden to the military\industrial complex

There must be a war or threat of war constantly to feed the beast

Non interventionism is one of the cornerstones of libertarianism

The GOP is NEVER going to go along with such nor will you ever be able to convince a majority of Republicans who for the most part like all this military stuff of the value of noninterventionism

Yet Americans are so wedded to the two party system that a third party ie Libertarian has no realistic chance of victory

      Hell of a dilemma!

    • By snodgrass January 23, 2012 at 5:43 pm

Cid, you summed it up well, but I think you’re wrong about the potential for a third party bid. There are enough frustrated people on the left and the right to combine for a sizable base even now. Those numbers have the potential to multiply if the third party candidate has ballot access, adequate organization, a well of monetary support, a moderate message, and a medium to deliver it. Ron Paul has all of that. Most importantly, he has one thing that the other parties don’t: Trust!

    • By Ohmaar January 23, 2012 at 6:02 pm

Sorry, Ross Perot has forever poisoned the third-party well. As dumb as Republican’s may be at times, they’re not stupid enough to fall for that ruse again.

Avoid the debate? Are you kidding me? All he has to do is let Newt talk most of the time. It’ll be like watching someone punch themselves in the face? Given enough opportunities he’ll implode on his own like before.

Everyone talks about how “good” a debator Newt is, go on, keep underestimating the “Black Jesus”.

If the GOP bombthrower gets the primary nod he’s going to do the same thing to independents and some of the GOP electorate that he did back in the 90′s before his own party bounced him out the door.

Hopefully not a war with Iran?

Make no mistake, Obama’s campaign knows that during debates Newt will rip Obama’s head off and shit down his neck before the entire world.

Obama’s camp will not win bashing Newt’s history. You can see that clear as day from the bitter hostile anti-Obama atmosphere lingering across the entire nation.

Goodness, I can’t wait! McCain replaced his boxing gloves with fuzzy feel-good mittens.

Newt’s going in bare-knuckles. Obama’s teleprompters won’t know what hit him.

Did anyone really care about George Bush’s background?

Did anyone really care about Barack Obama’s radical, racist and anti-American church and friends Rezko, Farrahkan, Jeremiah Wright?

Nobody really cares. Obama can toss this in Newt’s face 24/7, but it will not get Obama reelected.

Exactly! Look what bringing up Newt’s past did for John King. Probably the turning point that resulted in Newt’s big win in SC.

So yeah! Go ahead! Keep bringing up his past!

Great picture Fits, tells the story…..Hard to believe that all the Bible thumping christian family values voters went for a liar, serial cheater and crook. These same hypocrites were bitching about throwing Wiener out of office because he sent a picture in his underwear, but seem to be fine with Newt getting a BJ in his driveway with his daughters in the front yard.Gotta love how people change the Bible to suit their needs.Just ask King David ,he knows how it’s done.

So who is this “Uncle Remus”?

    A legit old-school bigot?

    Just a provocateur?

A parody poster trying to make SC conservatives look bad?

Yea, I’ve pretty much decided that the “racism” vote is probably 50/50 Dem/Rep when you toss out blacks…so it’s hard to tell.

It’s partially why the Southern Strategy still has legs when used by either side.

I voted for Newt and proud of it – I’d vote for anyone running so long as it is against the Haley establishment. Sorry Mitt, but you had the wrong bed partner endorsing you…Governor Shady Deal would be a better bed partner for an endorsement than Gov. Slickki Nikki.

The people at the debate seemed more concerned with who was making a racket when applauding the good policy points of Ron Paul rather than actually understanding why they were good policy points. What got Newt the vote was his shitting on CNN’s King at the onset of the debate. Apparently the South Carolina isn’t very educated as to the underlying cronyism and corruption so blatantly obvious in our federal government but they are privy to knowing that CNN has been lying to them (at least not as badly as Faux) and that Newt pwned for being a sleazy media outlet. Sadly, the time for libertarian views to be understood and supported appears to not be at hand. I just hope that it is not too late for us as a country before the people realize what has been stolen from them.

I can tell you the reason Newt won SC. Sure, there are those that voted for him to spite Haley and maybe just maybe there were some who think he’s got some good ideas. I’ll tell you what did it though, it was when he talked about food stamps and black folks needing to get back to work. Every undecided voter decided right then and there to vote for Newt. Newt speaks the language of the base and Mittens, Santorum and the good doctor just don’t. All Newt has to do to keep winning is keep blowing that subtle racist dog whistle and he’ll keep winning.

What is wrong with pundits today? The whole part of the last 12 months was to create a ground swell of protests against millionaires, citing raising taxes etc, and then to openly embrace a GOP candidate that will give creedance to the whole argument that capitalism is the enemy and millionaires are the problem. There is no way a man who makes 20 million dollars a year, taxed less than Joe the Plumber, can win a general election against a well oiled machine that will chew him up then spit him out. For Solutions. For Results. For America. Gingrich for 2012!!!Stick with Gingrich NO Matter The Smears!!! Spite the SOB’s
