Did Haley Give Romney The Kiss Of Death?

GOVERNOR’S BACKING DIDN’T HELP MITT IN SOUTH CAROLINA

So here’s a Mitt Romney for president yard sign that one of our intrepid readers discovered on primary day outside of a very prominent downtown Columbia, S.C. address – 800 Richland Street. For those of you unfamiliar with this location, it’s the taxpayer-funded residence of S.C. Gov. Nikki Haley – a prominent Romney supporter.

It’s also the home of, um, this dude.

Anyway, a reader forwarded us the image in the hopes we would make a stink about a political sign being placed so prominently outside of “the people’s house,” but we’re choosing to use its a springboard for another discussion.

Specifically, we want to know what our readers think about Haley’s endorsement of Romney in South Carolina’s “First in the South” presidential primary … whether it impacted their votes (and if so, how). More importantly, we want to know how a Romney defeat in South Carolina (which is looking increasingly likely, by the way) will impact her political career moving forward.

Haley is obviously sucking wind among South Carolina voters (with an abysmal 34.6 percent approval rating), but for the most part the national media and the Republican establishment in Washington, D.C. still love her. In fact, just this week it was announced that Haley would be the keynote speaker at a Republican National Congressional Committee fundraiser in Washington, D.C.

Romney has also put her on his vice presidential short list … and she could be in line to receive a prime time speaking slot at the Republican National Convention in Tampa this summer (although there are some legitimate questions swirling in the background related to Haley’s alleged efforts to land such a gig).

Would a Romney loss slow her national trajectory?

Five days ago – when Romney still enjoyed a 10-point lead over Newt Gingrich in the Palmetto state – we wrote about the former Massachusetts governor and the likelihood that he had survived Haley’s endorsement. In that story, we referenced a pair of polls which showed that Haley’s endorsement was mostly a non-factor – and possibly even a net negative – for his campaign.

Now it’s looking like he may not survive it after all … which is why we want your thoughts on the role Haley may have played in Romney’s final week free fall (remember she spent the last week of the campaign aggressively campaigning with Romney across the state)?

“If Romney loses Saturday, it’ll also be a stinging rebuke to South Carolina’s Tea Party-backed governor, Nikki Haley. Campaigning with Romney Friday, she was off her game. “This current president wants to weaken our military, and President Obama wants to strengthen our military and will never apologize for it,” Haley said, according to a Patch report.”

Oh mercy sake, Romney needs to shut her pie hole quickly.

Romney losing in SC deflating the winds in Haley’s sails national aspirations depends on a couple of factors, 1. how big Romney losses, 2. if the national media identifies her sinking popularity and her endorsement as to why Romney lost. Its obvious to all observers in this state either she hurt him or at least was a non-factor, but what does she care? She got the exposure and the cash, she probably thinks she is the winner no matter how this plays out.

Not that Gingrich has a chance to be nominated

Nor is it likely he wins anything out side the south

But assuming that somehow he won the Republican nomination

Obama will bury him in a landslide

And once again Gingrich would likely won very little outside the south

      Go ahead Republicans

      Nominate Newt Gingrich!

Sorry BigT, Newt will NEVER beat Obama. Trust me when I tell you that I am as conservative as you will ever be and that I will not be voting for Newt in the General Election… I’ll just stay home. Personally, I don’t take losing the moral high ground lightly. And that of course is the direction the GOP party in SC is heading. And given this wrong path, Obama must be laughing his a$$ off.

Newt frankly repulses me with his prior indiscretions. And yet, I’m not only talking about his personal life. In the end, he is a faux conservative who is nothing more than a big government, statist. So noting this, if he is it for the GOP in 2012, I’ll just sit it out until 2016 and wait for a better candidate to come along. Hopefully, with that candidate, the GOP can begin the process of regaining the moral high ground and true conservative values.

If you ascribe to the metaphor that the US is a big ship, sitting out the 2012 election assuring Obama’s reelection, allows the ship to go further down the leftist course. While you might not like Newt and all he represents, he is likely to take us off Obama’s course enough to make an easier go for 2016. Sitting out is not the answer.

The MSM has saturated SC with reporters for 2 weeks. Nikki’s poor standing in SC is no longer a secret but has been thoroughly exposed.

Her time in the “sunlight” of national media is severely shorten ed. She’s got a lot of “splaining” to do to recapture it.

I think she cooked her goose in the last few days with her lap-dog cheerleading for the guy with magic underwear. And no one with half a brain can deny it.

And frankly, I’m just not stupid and sheepish enough to vote for WHOMEVER the GOP machine tells me to vote for… values, integrity and honor be d@mned. This is a conservative site where hypocrites are drawn and quartered, especially when exposed to “deer in the headlights” luminosity. When the history books are written, I believe Haley’s endorsement will be called a “critical inflection point” downward for Romney because she is so disliked and disrespected by three fourths of South Carolina Republicans. This is a huge slap in the face to her by us voters, and an embarrassment to her of the first order. Regardless what happens to Gingrich et al. in other states, South Carolinians have said “Bad puppy!” to Nikki Haley.
