A South Carolina consultant who allegedly masterminded a cash-for-contributions scheme on behalf of S.C. Lt. Gov. Ken Ard is working on behalf of the group that’s putting on Thursday night’s big Republican presidential debate.
Robert Cahaly – who is also an advisor to S.C. Gov. Nikki Haley – is affiliated with the Southern Republican Leadership Conference, the group that’s hosting Thursday night’s debate in Charleston, S.C.
In fact, sources tell FITS that Cahaly – who was indicted by the S.C. State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) in November 2010 for his role in illegal robo-calls on behalf of S.C. Speaker Bobby Harrell – has been alternately doling out and withholding coveted tickets for the debate in exchange for “political considerations.”
(For complete coverage of “Cahaly-gate,” click here and here. For more on the allegedly illegal phone calls that led to his arrest, click here and here).
Frankly, we don’t particularly care if Cahaly is using his proximity to this group to trade political favors. The real concern? That some South Carolina power brokers are apparently that desperate to get into the event.
Anyway, we’ll know a lot more about Cahaly’s fate when the grand jury that’s investigating Ard’s campaign finance violations reaches the end of its deliberations. When will that happen?
Within a month, we’re told …

When I see the government persecuting people for not following the government’s “Election” or “Campaign” law, I laugh…
The government Giveth, and the government Taketh away…
And FITS dutifully chases the same “Violators” of the Goverment’s laws, and the government pats him on the back…
All the while telling us how much for FREEDOM he and Ron Paul are…
LMAO…

There have been rumors that the audience for Monday night’s debate was stacked with Gingrich supporters. These rumors are just that, since no solid evidence has been produced to prove it. However, if you watch a replay of the debate, the intensity of applause for Gingrich is hardly consistent with previous debates. This is even more curious when you look at the relatively small crowds that Gingrich consistently draws at local appearances.

Interesting, does any one know who Cahaly is pulling for? Has he made his preference known?

SLED doesn’t and can’t indict anyone. An indictment is a judicial version of a charge. SLED, working with the state grand jury, can seek indictments and I believe those were returned in this case.
I don’t know where it lies. Not saying the guy ain’t charged. But indictment is a slightly more loaded term.
A prosecutor can also do a direct indictment, but he’s more of a court officer than a cop.
A criminal charge filed by a cop does not get a case into the judicial system, per se. indictments do.
