LOWCOUNTRY SENATOR SAYS PERRY “CANNOT WIN” AND HAS “NO VIABLE STRATEGY”
S.C. Sen. Larry Grooms (R-Berkeley) – an early supporter of Rick Perry’s presidential campaign – has called on the Texas Governor to abandon his White House aspirations.
“I was there when Governor Perry made his announcement in Charleston and had tremendously high hopes for a Perry Presidency,” Grooms said in a statement. “I still believe he would be a great national leader, but campaigns are tough and early mistakes and missed opportunities have taken their toll. Now is the time to get out and pass the baton to another leader that can take the message to the next level.”
Grooms did not say whether he planned on endorsing another candidate, although sources tell FITS that he is contemplating such a move. In fact, we’re told that Grooms is “strongly leaning” toward an endorsement of former U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum.
Wow … talk about going from one dud to another.
Anyway, Grooms didn’t mince words in calling on Perry to throw in the towel.
“With only days to go before the South Carolina Primary, it is apparent that Governor Perry cannot win and has no viable strategy in moving forward,” Grooms added. “Remaining in the race at this point only serves to steer votes away from viable candidates.”
One of the first candidates to experience the “Flavor of the Month” treatment from voters in South Carolina (and across the country), Perry’s campaign soared to a 20-point lead in South Carolina only to come crashing down to earth after a series of poor debate performances.
After a disappointing fifth-place showing in early-voting the Iowa Caucuses, Perry contemplated dropping out of the race but was persuaded by his advisors to stay in.
Some have speculated that Perry – a left-leaning crony capitalist who ran as a right-wing reformer – is remaining in the race in an effort to help former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, the choice of the Republican establishment.
“Perry and Romney have formed an alliance for Perry to stay in – (I’m) 100 percent sure of it,” one SCGOP source tells FITS.

Might as well
He was finished after Iowa
Fits nailed this one
He foolishly listened to his “consultants”
Just wasted his time and money

Perry cannot win SC. Voters, a vote cast for Perry is a vote thrown away.

Thank God, Alan Wilson never found anyone to fill Adam Piper’s important job at the Attorney General’s Office when he left to run the Huntsman campaign.
By NEWSFLASH January 16, 2012 at 6:28 pm
Piper was just on unpaid leave, he still has that job in Wilson’s office.
By cash January 16, 2012 at 3:15 pm
SCGOP source, Romney would certainly stoop that low.
By debbie January 16, 2012 at 7:17 pm
Romney stoops as low as one can get. Supporters Alexander LaMar, strong Tennessee backer of Mitt Romney has a business interest in Bain capital, as well as other folks who are supporting Mitt.
Romney tried to plug in his Bain Capital buddies into spots within the GOP across the nation. Pay n’ Play in Detroit, with strong Romney backers funding Michigan Democrats. The correct way to spell Romney is CORRUPTION.
By NEWSFLASH January 16, 2012 at 10:03 pm
Wonder if Romney backer Loftis has money tied up in Bain? Thinking back on his endorsement…and still wondering what is in it for him.
By MLK, the hero January 16, 2012 at 3:30 pm
“Now is the time to get out and pass the baton to another leader that can take the message to the next level.”
I forget, what message is that?
Are we talking about the message about Romney being a company killer and that “certain types” of capitalism is bad?
Maybe the message he refers to is the one where Santorum said “I’m no longer a deficit hawk”.
Or maybe he means Perry’s message to everyone at one of the debates where he said, “Congressman Paul is the individual on the stage that got me most interested in a subject that I found to be quite interesting and at the root of a lot of the problems that we have, and I thank you for that,”-meaning the Federal Reserve.
IS THAT THE MESSAGE you mean Larry?
By snodgrass January 16, 2012 at 3:42 pm
When asked for a response to Mr. Grooms comments, Perry stated, “There’s three things I will not tolerate in my campaign: Backstabbing, talking to the press without my permission, and uh..uh..wait a minute..uh
By ? January 16, 2012 at 3:57 pm
Larry’s just unhappy that he made a bad choice and wants a “do over”.
This is what happens when you endorse people without any guiding principles behind your endorsement.
Looks at Will’s list of SC pols that endorsed Perry, it’s a friggen overpopulated graveyard of endorsements.
They all want to be “set free” of their dumb ass mistake, only to make another one in going for the next GOP flavor of the week.
Watching the GOP flail around like chickens with their heads cut off is a sadistic form of entertainment…but sadly our country is just hanging on so it’s hard to get too much enjoyment out of it.
It’s obvious this was going to happen eventually because no one in the GOP gives two shits about the platform or principles. Consider it their 40 years in the wilderness…except they may never return.
The best thing they could do is retrench to the “Old Right” viewpoints and start over again…rebuilding a core based on principles…not “who’s electable”.
I think America is pretty damn tired of panderers on both sides of the aisle.(but maybe I’m wrong…we’ll see…if not “America” at least the people than can think for themselves now and then)
By OnlyRonPaul January 16, 2012 at 4:14 pm
What will happen when Perry ends his campaign, officially (it ended when he couldn’t remember the third agency he’d close):
1) His supporters will split, most of them going to Ron Paul;
2) The end.

Even if this were true (it’s not), it means he would add just handful of voters.

Who is Big T supporting this week?
By Sailor January 16, 2012 at 4:36 pm
I dunno, but he’s being awfully quiet. I think so far, he’s endorsed everyone but Ron Paul (because Fits picked him) and Romney. Maybe he’s tired of making an ass of himself!

Big T is Thad Dumb Fuck Viers. That is why he is suddenly so quiet.

If this is the case if would be Karl Rove manipulation as well as Mitts. Rove thinks all Americans are dumbheads.

Safran dreams and curry-spiced wishes for everyone!
It is time to speak about Rick Perry!
There is an old saying on the streets of Calcutta about sad unfortunates such as Rick Perry!
“That beggar’s brain would fit in a mosquito’s anus, and it would still rattle!”
You see, his candle is not burning too brightly!
He is all turban and no cranium!
He’s not the sharpest bed of nails in the temple!
Millions of starving Indian children can score higher on a standardized test than the wit-famished Rick Perry!
He’s damn stupid!
BUT . . . if he is aiding handsome Mitt Romney — presidential choice of the darling Nikki Haley of Lexington County — than he can at least serve as a political doorstop for others more worthy!
As the Guru Swami Rajneesh Maharashi-Dikshit once said to me:
“How smart does one have to be merely to exist?”
I agree one infinite percent!
Things are coming up roses for sweet Nikki!
Can you smell the future, South Carolina?
Haley-Palin 2016!
I can see India from my house!
